she dusted each object carefully. wiping her finger across it checking for any dust left behind. as she lifted up her skirt and moved onto the next object she knocked over a teacup, shattering on the floor.oh i've done it now
she turned and reached for the broom and dustpan eagerly and hurriedly bent to sweep it up when suddenly the clicking of heels could be heard down the hallway. y/n stood fixing her posture as she dusted her skirt. a women known as evelyn potter entered the living room. she was tall with broad shoulders. her hair hung loosely in a braided bun with strands slightly covering her face. she wore a red skirt with a white blouse with pearls around her neck. she stood in front of y/n towering over her and looked at the shattered tea cup then back up at y/n, "what have we here?" she grabbed the broom from y/ns grasp as she started to sweep, "must i do everything in this house?"
y/n stood in front of her, not daring to say a word. she clasped her hands together in front of her while ringing her fingers. right when she was about to apologize she felt another presence enter the room and she looked up to see her mother. she was wearing an apron and looked to have just dealt with flour since it was all over her face. her mother dusted her hands on the hem of her apron before speaking, "mrs. potter? what has happened?"
mrs. potter stood glaring at y/n before turning to the confused woman, "your daughter broke a tea cup while being reckless! you better talk some since into her y/m/n before i fire you both!" she shoved the broom and dustpan into y/m/n and marched away, probably going to tell her husband about the tragic story of the shattering tea cup. y/m/n looked at the dust pan and broom in her hands before setting it down, "y/n..."
she looked at her mother before slumping down on the couch, "i know mom! i'm sorry! i was dusting when my elbow knocked a tea cup. i never intended too-" before she could finish y/m/n spoke up "y/n you cannot sit on the couch!" she hurriedly ushered her daughter up from the silky white couch. y/n sighed standing in front of her mother, "i'm sorry mother. i just can't stand her!"
y/m/n put rested a hand on each side of your arms, "y/n honey you know we need this job. you need to take into consideration the rules and requirements of this job. we can't risk to loose it!" she looked at the dust pan and broom before handing them both to her daughter, "clean up the glass before anyone sees you."
y/n took the broom and dust pan and got to work.

y/n hesitantly knocked on mr and mrs potters door. she stepped back to see either or but was surprised to see amelia, their 8 year old daughter, "oh! hello amelia! where is your mother and father?" amelia swayed before answering, "mommy is in the parlor! why?" she fluffed you her ruffles on her white dress. y/n smiled, "i am going to get groceries! would you like to come?" she saw amelias face light up before running to the parlor to ask her mom before running back, "yes! mother said i can go!"y/n opened the door letting amelia get out first. she turned and closed the big door behind her not letting the tiny puppy escape. when she turned around she ran into a familiar brown hair and hazel eyed boy, "gilbert! hi!" he smiled before looking at the young girl who was standing behind your leg clearly shy, "hello y/n! and you must be amelia?" she nodded slightly before jumping in front of him with her hand out, "yes sir! and you are?" gilbert chuckled, "gilbert blythe. i must say, your dress is quite lovely." amelia blushed before taking his hand leading him down to the side walk. y/n was too busy staring at the adorable sight before realizing they were already down the road. she caught up and took amelias free hand, "oh, you must be wondering where we are going?" gilbert looked at her, "quite frankly, yes."y/n smiled turning from gilbert's gaze and looked down the road, "we decided to go shopping. do you have any stores in mind?" before gilbert could suggest a store amelia spoke her mind, "could we shop for ribbon and dresses?" the two smiled down at amelia before y/n replied, "i don't see why not!"
———
"and this one, and this one, and- wait, where are the blue ribbons?" amelia danced around the boutique flipping through sketches of dresses and gaping at the ones on display. y/n was looking at skirts while gilbert was helping amelia look for the blue ribbons. y/n pointed near a big window, "i believe over there?" she was correct. gilbert and amelia slipped over there hand in hand, "uh, y/n?" she turned to look at them and laughed. amelia had wrapped the blue ribbon around herself multiple times, "look y/n! i'm a mummy!" y/n smiled before walking over there helping gilbert unravel the girl. y/n took the ribbon and wrapped it around her waist twice, "could you hand me the scissors please gilbert?" he handed her the scissors and she cut the ribbon. she then cut it in half, "one for your hair and one for your waist!"amelia simply smiled dragging them to the check out counter. the lady smiled at them taking their money and giving them back their change, "is she your child?" y/n and gilbert both flushed and at the same time answered, "no." the lady smiled and put the ribbon in a small gift bag, "her you go sweetie!" amelia thanked her and left, y/n and gilbert following behind her. y/n looked at gilbert. the entire day she had noticed how gilbert was very kind to amelia. helping her reach for things on shelves and helping pick out dresses to try on. gilbert met her gaze and smiled. y/n returned it, "you are really good with kids gilbert." she says turning away from his eyes "amelia seems to really like you." gilbert slightly laughed, "my best friend has a daughter. she is not eight though, she is only 11 moths old." y/n smiled at him before moving up and lacing hands with amelia. gilbert stayed back smiling at the sight in front of him.
