A new year bringing new opportunities, new changes and new challenges. Little had I known, that this would be the year that everything changed.
There were too many memories at home. Too many picture awful moments of my parents arguing, leading to my dad leaving. Too many memories of Austin's charming smiles and my mother's anguished screams. I needed to leave.
I received an email that fateful day. An email that would change everything.
Dear Ashleigh Weston,
We have been looking for quite some time for a relative or family member of an elderly woman named Ennay and found some DNA that links you to her in your ancestry.com entry. You might be wondering, "why does this matter?" Well, Ennay is a special case. She is 60 years old and suffers from vocal chord paralysis and has no other family. She cannot afford at home care with her current insurance and we do not know how much longer she has to live. We would love it if you could be a light in her life and give her a family member she's never had. Ennay lives in Bratsville, Georgia, please reach back to us for further inquiry.
Warm regards,
Dr. Stanley Orzo
I had to ponder this decision for a long time. Moving from Michigan to Georgia was a gargantuan change, but then again, isn't that exactly what I wanted?
For days and days I thought and thought until I finally made my decision.
