"You're doing great, Y/n!"
I fearfully nodded.
"If you need to, just hold on to me."
I could only nod.
"How do you feel N/n?"
This time I had to use words, "A little unsteady." I paused, "Okay, very much unsteady and scared."
Ginny gave me a warm smile. "You don't need to be scared. I'm right here. If you fall-I, doubt that'll happen-I'll catch you."
I gave her a weak smile in return.
Ginny flew five feet higher and about three feet back. "Why don't you try coming over here?"
I hesitated but seeing my friend's encouraging smile, I slowly made my way over then up.
Ginny's grin was more full. "I told you, you could do it!"
I gave a small laugh.
"Do you think you're ready to try flying faster?"
My smile evaporated. "I...I don't know."
"We can start lower, then work our way up," she suggested.
I gave it a moment's thought. "Yeah...Okay."
I managed to fly higher and faster in a couple of hours than I ever had my entire life! Although, that's not saying a lot considering I've known about flying and magic for roughly three years. The only reason I didn't try this sooner was because of my excessive fear of heights. Ginny and I were racing around the field's perimeter, and I was having the time of my life. Ginny began showing me diving maneuvers. Amid me practicing one, an unnaturally strong gust of wind hit us. Ginny was able to stay on her broom.
Unluckily, I hadn't. I was barely holding onto my broom. We were so high off the ground. A fall at this height could be fatal. Other than try and hold on, I didn't know what to do. So, I screamed for Ginny. The wind had managed to blow us a very far distance apart. As Ginny raced to my aid, my hands started slipping off the handle. Just as I was about to fall, Ginny caught one of my arms.
"Y/n, hold-hold on!"
If I fell...I wish I had told her! "Please. Don't let go, Ginny!"
"I won't," she assured me. "Just hold onto me." She thought for a moment, looked around, and said, "Y/n, I'm going to need you to trust me, okay."
God, what was she doing?
"Your broom is within my arm's reach. I won't let go of you, but I'm going to have to let go of my broom."
She could lose her balance, which would cause us both to fall. "No, Ginny, don't-"
"Y/n, listen! My arm is getting sore, and I can't afford to readjust my grip. When I grab your broom, you'll have to grab it with your open arm. I'll help hoist you onto your broom; then we can get outta here, alright?"
My eyes were brimming with fear.
"I promise you, everything is going to be okay. It has to be because I can't lose you."
"Ginny I-" I could see how scared she really was. "I trust you."e
When she let go of her broom, it took her a minute to regain her balance. When she did, she inched forward and successfully grabbed mine. "You ready, Y/n?"
"As ready as I'll ever be..." I reached for the broom but stopped. "Wait, Ginny..." I looked into her as again. My weight was putting so much strain on her. She's strong, but she can't hold me forever. "Never mind." I grabbed the broom and looked back toward Ginny.
