It was probably around midnight, if not after, when I finally left the library. I fell asleep studying and reading. Well, mostly reading my latest book.
I was walking toward my common room when I realized I was more awake than I had initially thought. From there, I decided to roam the halls a bit until I wandered outside.
The air was fresh and crisp. Autumn was always my favorite season for a reason. I went toward the lake edge and took my robes off, lightly setting my book down on top, and rolling up my shirt sleeves. I laid down and closed my eyes, soaking in the moonlight.
"I didn't take you for the type to fancy a stroll in the dark."
I shot up and turned around to see none other than the infamous Draco Malfoy.
"Well, there's a lot you don't know about me, Malfoy." I smirked, "Honestly, I didn't take you for the type to fancy a late-night stroll."
"Hm. Well, I guess that's where you're not entirely wrong, L/n," he chuckled "I didn't entirely expect to be out here tonight. But I'm glad I am." He smiled, looking partially down as he strolled over.
"Feeling confident, are we Draco?" I laughed as I scooted over
"Maybe a bit."
I laid back down to look up at the stars.
"They're beautiful, aren't they? It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen. There are billions upon billions up there." I said in awe
"Yeah, they are. But I know something even better." Draco said in admiration as he laid down next to me.
"What? No way. There's nothing better than the stars!" I said half shocked half defensively
"Is that a challenge L/n?" he joked
"I wish. I could beat you in a heartbeat," I said I sat up, "and you know it."
"I'll take you up on that offer." Draco grinned as stood up
I stood, "Alright, bet. But no wands."
Shocked, his eyes widened, but Draco nodded and tossed his wand by my book as I followed suit. "On my count. One...Two...."
"Hold on what exactly are we doing-"
"Three! I yelled as I lunged at him, knocking him right over. "See, what did I tell you?"
"That's kind of cheating, ain't it?"
"Eh, it's whatever," I shrugged, realizing I was laying halfway on Draco. "Oh, um, sorry I'll get up n-"
"You're good, love."
My face went red. Dammit, could he see? It was dark, but the moon shined bright. One of his hands was resting lightly on my back while the other reached up to move a few strands of my h/c hair behind my ear. "Draco..?"
"Yeah, L/n?"
A moment of silence passed.
"What's better than the stars?"
"You."
I blushed even harder. He could definitely see now. He smiled warmly at me. "Wanna go raid the kitchens?"
"Sounds perfect," I laughed. I sat up, and Draco stood up before me, giving me his hand. "Thanks," I smiled.
Once we grabbed a bunch of snacks from the kitchen, we sat on the floor in the corridor just outside the dungeons. We laughed as we ate them, recalling the surprised look on some of the house-elves' faces.
"Man, what a fun night."
"Better than reading a book?" Draco asked looking directly at me
I playfully gasped, "You would make me choose between tonight and reading? How rude!"
Draco laughed, "You must choose."
"Hmph. Alright fine. Mmmmmmmmmm... It's gotta be..." Draco looked at me impatiently, "Books."
"Ouch." He scoffed playfully. But somewhere deep down, he sounded a little hurt.
"Oh, come on! You're rudeness for making me choose cost you that." I defended, laying my head on his shoulder and patting the other with my hand, to comfort him. His body seemed to relax under my touch. "This was great, Draco, really," I assured him. I turned to look at him, and we made eye contact. I felt my face grow hot again, and this time his face drew color too. His eyes seemed to be trying to read me. I looked away and leaned on back on his shoulder.
"We should do this again sometime." he smiled as he gently lay his head on mine.
"Hm...Yeah..." I happily sighed
Draco's Point of View
A few minutes passed by. A few moments turned into a few minutes where we sat there cuddling.
"L/n?"
There was silence. I picked my head up and looked down at her. She was peacefully sleeping on my shoulder. I heard her mumble "stars." in her sleep. "N/n, the only thing better than stars is you. It was always you." I kissed her on the top of her head. I carefully moved so I could pick her up bridal style and stand. Once I was securely holding her, I walked her to the dorms.
