Chapter Five

Last time, on Tsukiuta Another Story:

"Thank you so much for your help!" You smiled to the twins. "I hope I'll get to see you around again!"

In response the twins curtseyed to you, and what they said next left you greatly unsettled.

"See you around, princess."

After that encounter with the twins, you were left pretty shaken up, until a grumpy Ranmaru found you.

"Oi Princess. Where the hell were you?"

"Ran... Hey, are my eyes still a different colour? Do I look like how I am in the castle?"

The sudden barrage of questions overwhelms Ranmaru as you get closer and closer into his personal space with each question.

"You look normal, okay?! Now stop, we're going home."

You only nodded shakily, following the dandelion back to the rest.

Back in the castle, you sat in Jiwa's laboratory, watching her as she experiments with different ingredients to see what sort of new spells she could create. Other than the occasional clinking of glass apparatus, the room was dead silent.

"... So what's up? Coming to my lab saying you had something to ask me, but you're not talking. Something happened at the fair?"

You sighed. "Yeah. It was the robbing incident. I chased that robber into the alleyways and got myself lost."

"Huh- But grumpy cat said he found you just standing in the middle of the street. And we all know how directionally challenged you are."

"That's the thing! A pair of twins helped me find my way back out, but then- They knew!"

"About your identity?" Jiwa sets down her pipette filled with some purple substance, her attention fully on you. You nodded.

"Exactly. The strange thing was that my disguise was fully intact... And they still figured it out! The last thing was their auras, I used Sphaeram on them, and I could only feel one aura instead of two. Other than with you, this has never happened ever-"

"Well I know for one, that my spells aren't perfect. Your face being different doesn't mean that your voice is. As for their auras, wouldn't that mean that one twin has no magic?" Jiwa mused. "Either way, those twins seem to be bad news. You'd do well to be careful. Stay out of town for a while."

And you sighed. "Yeah, I know."

Before you knew it, a few months had passed quietly. The princes and their aides were having fun in the castle and learning lots of things about Liliya, and you were happy to be able to interact and get to know everyone more.

But being trapped in the castle was suffocating sometimes. So you decided to sneak into town. It would only be for a while, so nothing would happen, right?

No.

You had made two mistakes that day. The first was not hiding the earring that only the royal family wore.

It was a peaceful day in town. The civilians were milling about, children were laughing and smiling, it was nice. You were just walking around the park, until a child ran into you.

"Wah!" she fell on her butt. "Owie..."

"Are you okay?" you asked, helping her up.

"Mhm! Ah, your dress is dirty...! S-Sorry, i'll wash it for you!" The flustered child dragged you to the fountain in the park. And you, who loved children, did not resist.

The little girl was all smiles as the two of you reached the fountain. "Nacchan!~ I found her!~" And that set you on high alert.

'Found me...?'

But before you could shake free from the child's vice grip, a weird-smelling cloth covered your mouth and nose from behind. The scent was a sickly sweet one, and trying not to breath it in was too late, as you were already blacking out.

The second mistake was letting your guard down around this child, especially when there were many red flags before you were captured.

You really should not have let your guard down.
