Chapter 16

2 years passed after that beautiful day, Sonic and Amy kept running together everywhere they wanted to and Tails was taking care of Sherry everyday, he played with her and taught her many things, she grew and was able to speak and walk at the age of 1.

While she kept growing she got interested in botany and she decided to have a flower garden like Amy and Tails was really happy to see how fast she was growing and decided to help her in her work.

Sometimes Sonic and Amy went to see Tails and he was always happy to let them come, sometimes they helped him by babysitting Sherry and Amy got really close to Sherry, since they were sharing that passion for flowers.

It was like Tails' nightmare for Cosmo's death was over, Sonic and Tails were able to have many moments like the old days.

Of course, since Sherry grew, Tails got an hard work by preparing another room for her, she wasn't anymore a baby.

Tails wanted to give her more, so he decided to take a long garden only for her, she had a square kilometer for her gardening and Tails helped her by making a machine that water the garden automatically.

Sherry appreciated her father's help, but she refused to use that machine, she thought that the flowers will grow better if she gives them the love they need, something that a machine cannot do it, Tails understood immediately what she meant, so he installed that machine, but he kept it off.

However Tails had a request for Sherry, she's really good at gardening her flowers, but maybe she could give him a little help and garden something more, he'd be happy to have some tomatos, potatos, carrots and lettuce from Sherry, she took it as a little challenge and she accepted, however it was harder than flowers, she needed time to learn how to farm.

And about Sonic and Amy? They got so close that they decided to build a bigger home and sell those they had, so they could start living together.

Tails wanted to help them, but it was hard for him, because even if he didn't suffer for Cosmo's death, his wound wasn't healed, he still didn't have someone to call his girlfriend.

A day Tails had to go buy some groceries, and he asked Sherry if she wanted to come with him, usually she accept and help her father, but that day she didn't, Tails didn't understand and asked her: "Why don't you come Sherry?"

Sherry: "Dad, I have to work on my garden, there's so much to do and it will take me the whole day"

Tails: "But honey, I can't leave you home alone"

Sherry: "Daddy, just go, I'll be fine"

Tails knew that he couldn't, so he made a phone call for Amy.

Amy: "Hello?"

Tails: "Hi Amy"

Amy: "Hi Tails, how are you?"

Tails: "I'm fine Amy, what about you?"

Amy: "Same, thanks, what's up?"

Tails: "Amy, can you come and babysit Sherry? She's looking for her garden and I have to go buy some groceries"

Amy: "And she refuses to come with you right?"

Tails: "Yeah, and you know how it is when I force her to do something she don't want to"

Amy: "Yeah, I know, Actually I have a date with Sonic, but I'm sure he'll understand, I'll come immediately, mind if Sonic come too?"

Tails: "No, not at all, call him if you want"

Amy: "Ok, I'm coming, thanks"

So Amy told Sonic everything and they got to Sherry.

While Tails was at the store, Sonic and Amy helped Sherry with her garden, when they got tired they had a break and got inside Tails' house to eat something.

Sherry had a thought while they were restoring themselves, and she asked Sonic: "Uncle Sonic, I always asked myself: Where do babies like me come from?"

Sonic got surprised by the question and he didn't know what to answer, he took a moment and said: "You came from a seed, actually I don't know much about where do babies like you come from, you're a seedrian, you know?"

Sherry: "Yeah, I know, so we seedrians come from seeds?"

Sonic: "Sherry, I have no idea, but I know you came from a seed"

Sherry was still curious and asked Sonic: "And where do these seeds come from?"

Sonic was red, Sherry was asking him things that he have no idea at all, so he said: "Sherry, I told you I have NO IDEA AT ALL"

Sherry: "Ok, sorry..." and she felt guilty from the question, Sonic understood that and said: "Don't worry Sherry".

Sherry was still curious, she wanted to know more about that, and asked: "However, where do usually babies come from? You said you have no idea about seedrians, but about the others?"

Sonic got more relaxed from this question, he decided to tell her 1 of those lies that everyone say to the childs and he said: "About those, nobody actually knows, when someone wants to have a child he usually write a letter and he send it away, it takes about 2 months to receive an answer, during that time they check if you're ready to be a parent or not, and if they decide to say yes, you have to wait 7 more months, when it's time a stork bring you a good baby".

Sherry was happy to hear that story, she wanted to know more and asked: "And, do you require something to send that letter?"

Sonic: "Yes, you require to be ready to be a parent" and he got near Amy to give her a good hug, then he said: "You know, only good people receive a baby, and they make sure that the child has the right cure from a father and a mother."

After saying that Sonic immediately realized that he just said the worst thing he could say, he got a bit in panic and watched around carefully, he just realized that Tails just got back from the store because he heard the bag of groceries falling to the ground, probably Tails heard most of what Sonic said, or at least the last part.

Sherry was still curious and he got near Sonic: "REALLY? I'm happy to hear this, and speaking of... where is my mother?"

Sonic was in the biggest panic he could be, Amy was in panic too while Tails Freezed himself, he didn't know what to answer and kept watching around.

Sherry: "Uncle Sonic? Why don't you answer?" Sherry was insisting, she wanted to have an answer and tried to ask it to Amy, she was in the same panic that Sonic had, so she didn't answer.

Sherry didn't want to give up on that and kept asking with insistence, but none of them answered, suddenly she noticed that her father got back from the store, so she got to him and asked: "Daddy, I'd like to meet my mom, when can I see her?"

Tails was freezed in desperation, he was living once again the day when he shoted and killed Cosmo.

Sherry was getting impatient and said: "Daddy? Why don't you answer?... DADDY? WHY DON'T YOU ANSWER?" she was getting angry and insisted even more: "DADDY, ANSWER ME!".

Tails had a growing feeling of sadness and tears started to come out from his eyes.

Sherry: "DAD, I WANT TO SEE MY MOM, WHY CAN'T I SEE HER?... STOP HIDING HER, WHY CAN'T I SEE HER?... GIVE ME MY MOM, I WANT TO SEE HER NOW!"

Tails couldn't hold his tears and got outside, he ran away the most he can and the fastest he could (but he wasn't wearing the Sonic-speed shoes).

Sherry didn't want to give up, so she followed Tails still screaming that she wanted her mom, she got blocked by Sonic who got in front of her and gave her a hug that didn't allow her to move.

Sherry: "LET ME GO, I WANT TO SEE MY MOM, DAD MUST STOP HIDING HER"

Amy got behind her and gave her another hug, then they said: "Ok, Ok, listen, it's a sad story, but we'll tell you if you stop, ok?"

Sherry refused it and tried again to free herself, eventually she stopped and accepted, they brought her back inside Tails' house and Amy tried to relax her.

Meanwhile Sonic was thinking: "WHAT AM I GOING TO TELL HER? I CAN'T TELL HER THAT COSMO'S DEAD AND TAILS SHOTED HER"

He took a moment and started saying: "Sherry, your mother is... working, she has a hard work, you know"

Sherry didn't understand and said: "And why can't I see her?"

Sonic: "Do you remember about our friend Knucles?"

Sherry: "The red idiot who stand in front of a big emerald all the day? What does he have to do with my mom?"

Sonic: "Well, your mom has a work like that, she must protect the planet egg, she made a hard choice and she decided to protect it"

Sherry was getting angry and said: "AND MY MOM CAN'T SEE ME BECAUSE SHE HAS TO DO NOTHING IN FRONT OF A STUPID EGG?"

Sonic tried to calm her and said: "Sherry, The planet egg isn't a normal egg, it's a special gem that give life to a planet if something bad happens to it, me, you, Amy, dad and everyone else, including the plants, would be dead"

So Sherry calmed herself and asked: "Oh, this changes all, I'm happy that my mother is doing something so great, but can't she take a break and come to see me sometimes? Or maybe I can go meet her. Where is she?"

Sonic: "Sherry, we don't know where your mom is, she's protecting that planet egg so good that even we don't know where she is, she's doing a wonderful job, and if she take a break probably someone will destroy it"

Sherry: "Oh, that's clear, and why daddy is so sad about this?"

Sonic: "Because he loves your mom more than how we notice, and he can't stop thinking about her, only you were able to help him feel better"

Sherry was entusiastic of that, so she said: "Oh, THAT'S GREAT, I'M HAPPY THAT MY FATHER LOVES ME SO MUCH, I'm going to talk with him, I want to give him some comfort."

Sonic got up and blocked Sherry saying: "Actually, I think it's a bad idea, you weren't really good with him before, let me go talk to him I'm sure he's not angry, but he needs time to vent out all what just happened."

Sherry: "But..."

Amy understood what Sonic meant and tried to help him saying: "Sherry, now that I think about, we took a good care about your garden, but mine needs some too, can you come and help me while Sonic go talk with your dad?"

Sherry gave a sigh and not really happy said: "Ok, I'll come"

Amy took Sherry by hand and got to her home, but before leaving she stopped and asked: "However, what's my mom's name?" Sonic took a moment and answered with a smile: "Cosmo"

After that Sherry felt satisfied and left with Amy while Sonic ran out hoping to find Tails, he didn't took much to find him, he was sitting on a bench in front of the sea.

Tails tried to calm himself, but he wasn't able, suddenly he felt someone sitting near him: Sonic.

Tails took a hug from him and started to cry the hardest he could, Sonic understood him and tried to comfort him, he had some tears too.

After a while Tails broke the hug, but he didn't recover from that and asked Sonic: "What did you tell Sherry?"

Sonic: "Don't worry, she understood my story, but I didn't tell her the truth, I told her that..." and Sonic explained him what he said to Sherry.

Tails: "But that's not the truth Sonic."

Sonic: "She's only a child Tails, I don't think she should know that, and however I didn't want to tell her the truth, if you want her to know the truth, you'll tell her when she'll be grown."

Tails didn't answer, he didn't know if he agreeded or not with Sonic's idea, however he still had to calm himself, and took another hug from Sonic, hoping to vent all out.
