Lanni Salton D3
"Welcome Miss Lanni Salton!" Cottyn shouts enthusiastically.

I smile at her politely and give the crowd a small wave before taking my seat in the chair next to Cottyns. I shift my dress slightly so I'm more comfortable. The black fabric is tight to my waist until it flares out and stops just above my knee. Little spurts of light flash around the hem of the dress lighting it up. My makeup is done simply except for some bold red lipstick.

"Now if i cast my mind back all the way to District 3's reaping i remember you making quite an entrance. Who was that young girl you volunteered for?" Cottyn questions.

I try to swallow the lump in my throat. The pain is still so fresh that I've lost my family forever. My brother, my sister, my parents. I'll never see them again. I take a deep breath before answering Cottyn.

"My little sister" I croak.

"Couldn't let anyone else have the honour of competing in the Games am I correct?" Cottyn says with a laugh.

"No it's not like that at all" I say before remembering that I'm meant to be making them like me. I'm going to have to lie a little bit. "I mean I'd never really thought about wanting to go into the Games but now that I'm here I can't wait to get in that arena! But mostly I volunteered because I didn't know what would happen to my sister if I didn't" I finished as the crowd whoops enthusiastically.

"Yes I understand. Do you miss your sister?"

I struggle to keep my facial expression friendly. Did she really just ask me that?

"More than anything Cottyn" I say earning some awws from the crowd. "But I'm going to make them proud"

The crowd claps loudly and I smile at them, a small flicker of hope growing inside of me. Maybe I will be able to see my family again.

"Well that's all we have time for" Cottyn says as the buzzer rings "Lanni Salton everybody!"

Huxley Flack D3
Before I took my seat up on the stage I had looked into a mirror backstage. I saw my own reflection looking back at me. My red hair coated in gel in an attempt to control the craziness. I looked different somehow.

Staring at my reflection a few seconds longer I noticed a figure walking towards me. It wasn't a tribute or even my mentor.

It was my brother. My dead brother

I spun around but of course he wasn't behind me, it was just my imagination. He stood next to me and it would be impossible to not tell we are brothers. He smiled at me before parting me on the back, except I couldn't feel it.

"Come on little bro up you go" he said.

I walked to my seat looking over my shoulder but I couldn't see him anymore.

Before I knew it, I was being called up for my interview. I passed Lanni on the way down the stairs. She looked so pretty.

"Hello to Huxley flack from District 3!" Cottyn yelled.

"Hi Cottyn, hi everyone" I said giving the crowd a wave.

"Now to get us started can I just say you setting I've been dying to ask?" She says, to which i nod in reply.

"Okay, is that your natural hair colour?" She says very quickly.

"Yes it is, I suppose it runs in the family. My brother had red hair and my father apparently was a red head back in the day" I say with a laugh. "I miss my brother but I'll be seeing him soon"

The crowd screams loudly taking my little comment about my brother as confidence, but it's not. I'll be seeing him soon wether I'm alive or dead.

"And finally, the boy you volunteered for, what's the connection there?"

"He's my bestfriend. Ever since we were in first grade."

The buzzer rings ending my interview. I wave to the crowd as they clap and yell out to me.

"Everybody's favourite red haired cutie, Huxley Flack!" Cottyn says lifting my hand into the air.

I walk back to my seat after waving to the crowd some more. As the applause continues I look over my shoulder and see one very familiar red headed boy looking back at me with a huge grin on his face.
