I trailed the end of the brush slowly along the lines of my eyelid, then allowing a straight edge to fly off the corner of my eye. I stayed unblinking as I stared into the mirror, waiting for the paint to dry.
I heard a knock on my door.
"Just a minute!" I yelled and then continued onto the other eye after blinking.
The banquet in honor of Chinjul was happening tonight and I wasn't very excited since I had already spent the entire day with the man.
There was another knock.
"My prince, are you okay?"
I rolled my eyes as I waited for my eyeliner to dry.
"If you must come in, guardian, by all means."
He took a few seconds before opening the door. I assume it was because he needed to think about what I said. I watched him walk into the room through the reflection of the mirror. He was gallantly tall with a silk kimono that was like the one he wore yesterday. It was black with beautiful strokes of silver thread dancing over the fabric to display a gorgeous tiger with sparkling sapphire colored eyes. I felt like those eyes were looking right at me.
I looked up and saw that it was his eyes that were, not the tiger.
A smile found its way onto my lips when I noticed him looking at my linen skirt held up by an amber-colored belt and the way his eyes trailed up my skin to marvel at the necklace hanging on my chest. It was a necklace gifted to me from my father – the symbol of the winged sun. He said it was a symbol of power, royal divinity. After all, I was the child of Ra and soon-to-be future pharaoh once my coronation took place.
I bet Chinjul could feel my power.
"Liking what you see, guardian?" I teased.
Chinjul looked up from my necklace and smiled, "You look wonderful, my prince."
I felt my face burn.
"You can keep your flattery to yourself, guardian. I still won't make your job any easier on you," I huffed as I looked down and began fiddling with my rings.
He chuckled, "I wouldn't dare imagine it."
There was a silence in the room for just a moment before Chinjul interrupted it.
"Are you ready to go?"
I rolled my eyes and turned around to face him, "Well, guardian, I did not dress up like this for my own pleasure. Of course, I am ready to go."
He opened the door for me, and I finally noticed the thing hanging from his hair bun. It was two long thin green colored things. At the ends dangled what appeared to be emeralds encrusted with gold writing. Something probably Az.
I walked past him, and he followed quickly behind me.
The walk to the throne room was silent. It was odd since we both usually were loud when together. Well, I guess it is usually me who is loud because I am usually the one screaming for him to put me down and him saying witty back. However, I didn't feel like I was in the mood to be carried around, especially to the tournament banquet.
We were starting to hear the music from the throne room getting louder.
"Are you excited?" Chinjul asked me.
I glanced back at him, "What?"
"Are you excited?" he repeated.
I scoffed, "No. I am usually bored at the parties my Tata throws. There is hardly anything to be excited about. Just my Tata's usual charade," I said as I walked through the entrance.
