Betty woke up on Monday with her anxiety on edge.
Today was the day that Jughead was transferring schools. Today was the day that he was going to start at Riverdale High.
Jughead and Betty had both agreed to not tell any one about their relationship. They wanted to keep it a secret for as long as they could.
They were both perfectly fine with keeping it a secret. They didn't need to show off their love. All they needed was each other (Eww that's cheesy).
The thing was that Betty was going to have to get used to "hating" Jughead. The whole school hated the Serpents. If she showed a little mercy to one of them, she would be hated and become an outcast.
She stood up and surveyed her clothing choices. All she had were sweaters. Red sweaters, blue sweaters, purple sweaters. It was unhealthy how many sweaters she had. It's not like she had a choice , her mom bought all of her clothes still.
She picked up a green sweater, it was Jughead's favorite. He said it brought out her eyes. She slipped it on with a pair of pants and threw her shoes on. She put on a light layer of make up, something her mother would approve of, and put on her necklace.
The necklace was a gift from Jughead on their 1 year anniversary. It was a heart locket with the words "My Juliet" on the front(I brought it back), with a picture of her and Jughead on their first date in it.
She tucked it under her sweater and walked out of her room.
She picked up a piece of toast and quickly ate while looking at her phone. Jughead was texting her.
Jughead: You ready for the day Betts?
Me: Just praying that no one finds out
Jughead: No one will, I promise Betts
Me: I hope so
Jughead: Alright, see you at school my love
Me: See you at school Juggie
"Betty, how many times do I have to tell you to not use your phone at the table."
Betty looked up to see Alice Cooper glaring daggers at her.
"Sorry mom, I won't do it again." Betty apologized.
"You better not, I have to go to work, I'll be home by 8." Alice told her daughter.
"Of course mom, I'll be home by 6, I have an article to work on at the Blue and Gold."
Alice gave her daughter a suspicious look and walked out the door.
Betty looked at the time. It was 7:30, she had to be at school before 8. She should start walking.
Betty walked out the door with her bag, on her way to Hell. It took her 10 minutes as it usually did, but once she got there she noticed something was off. She arrived at the school and almost immediately she was being stared at.
When she said everyone was staring, she meant everyone. They were all pointing and looking. Usually she was stared at, she was popular after all, but this was a different staring. They were staring as if they knew something, immediately she thought of it. What if they knew about her and Jughead? No, they couldn't, it had to be something else. She pushed away the anxious thoughts and smiled.
She walked throughout the school with her head held high. There was nothing to be freaked out about. Someone had probably started another rumor. She could brush it off and tell them off as she usually did. That was her plan, until she ran into Archie, one of her best friends of 7 years.
He had a look of disgust and confusion on his face. She didn't understand what it was about until he spoke.
"Is this true Betty?! Are you really dating that scum?!" He practically yelled.
She tried to play it off. Maybe it wasn't about that.
"Archie, what are you talking abou-" She was interrupted.
"This, Betty!"
He proceeded to show her a picture of her and Jughead. It was on the Southside, outside of Jughead's trailer, of him kissing her forehead.
She froze, all of her thoughts came rushing to her in an instant. It was starting to get hard to breathe. Not here, not here, not here, not here please. Apparently her mind didn't want to listen, as it had made her panic more.
Archie started going off on her. From what she could tell, he was yelling at her about Jughead, but she couldn't hear. The voices in the halls grew quieter and quieter as she started to panic more and more. It was almost impossible to breathe now. She needed to get away. She couldn't be there right now.
She turned away from Archie and bolted to the bathroom. A sole conscious part of her mind could tell that Archie was still yelling at her, but she still couldn't understand what he was saying.
She finally got to the bathroom and ran into a stall, locking it behind her. Her vision started to tunnel and her breathing was getting more shallow. Tears were threatening to spill as she pleaded them not to.
Apparently, the odds were not in her favor, as she couldn't take it and she let her tears fall. She let out a loud sob. Somewhere far away she heard the bathroom door open and a faint voice. She couldn't tell who it was, nor did she say anything. She just kept crying and the tears kept coming.
Someone knocked on the stall she was in. She was too busy crying to say anything back to the person.
Distantly, she saw the lock of the door turning and a body going to sit next to her. She blinked through her tears to see a leather jacket wearing, beanie clad boy.
He grabbed her hands and whispered things to her. It calmed her a bit knowing that he was there, but it wasn't enough. After a few minutes of her still freaking out, Jughead pulled her close to him and let her cry. She did. It felt like she was crying and panicking for hours, when in reality it had only been ten minutes.
Slowly, her breathing was more controlled and she could see almost clearly again. Once she finally calmed down she pulled away.
"Thanks..." She mumbled.
"Of course Betty, it's no problem."
Before he could ask why she was panicking, Betty blurted out, "They know."
She looked him in the eyes,"They know, Jug."
Jughead's face went serious for a second, as if he was thinking hard about this. He knew that Betty didn't want any one to find out, he knew it was a big thing with her anxiety, but if they know, then what's the point of hiding it?
He smiled at the blonde, "Let them find out, then they can see how great of a couple we are."
Betty giggled, "Yeah, we are pretty great."
"If they want to judge, let them, the only thing they'd be judging is a couple that's better than them."
Betty gazed at his green eyes, debating it.
She didn't want everyone to know, she didn't want to deal with the torture that would ensure, but she loved Jughead. And if any one had a problem with that, she found that she didn't care as much as she thought she did. As long as Betty could stay with him, it would be fine.
Her smile widened and she nodded. Jughead's smile grew as well, and he kissed her head.
"We'll be okay Betts, I promise." He whispered.
A/N Or will they? Hi, I'm back. I'm trying to keep my updates consistent, but obviously they haven't been. If there are typo's, I apologize, I wrote half of this on a tablet. I'm so sorry, I swear I'll try harder next time. 1254 words. Bi guys. -River
