Chapter 20

Pearl dropped a plate on the floor and gracefully turned around. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Her breathing became heavier. "S-Steven? Is it really you?" The boy tearfully smiled and nodded

Pearl instantly teared up and had the biggest smile on her face. The two sprinted towards each other. Pearl picked him up and they spun around laughing. She dropped to her knees and they remained holding each other for a few more seconds. "Are you okay? Where are you?"

"I'm okay. I can't really tell where I am. They have me trapped in a basement."

"Who's 'they'?"

"I don't know. It's two girls. They somehow know about me and gems." Pearl immediately knew who they were and where he was. Panic rose up on her face

"Oh god no, this is bad. Steven stay put and don't say anything. We'll be right over."

"Wait, Pearl who are they?"

"When Rose was still pregnant with you, we had to do some scouting. There was an....accident. Those girls despised us ever since. I never thought they would come back after all this time."

"Well what do they want with me?"

"They probably remember seeing Rose and came back years later to get back at us."  

Steven was fuming at what he just heard. "Are you serious?!"

"Steven, look at me. It doesn't matter what Rose did in the past. All that matters is getting you out of there." She cupped his face with her hands and kissed him gently on the forehead

Steven smiled and gave her one last hug. "I love you."

"I love you too. So much." They held each other for a little while longer. "Stay strong. We'll be there as soon as possible."

A white light grew brighter as Pearl started to wake up. Her eyes shot open. She looked around and slowly sat up. The house was completely empty. It looked to be early the next morning. She couldn't believe she slept that long. She headed outside to find one of the gems

She spotted Amethyst sitting alone on the beach, watching the sunrise. Pearl sprinted towards her

Amethyst felt her coming but was still pretty shocked. She turned her head and made eye contact. "Pearl! You're awake. And a mess hahaha."

Pearl glanced up at her hair. She had a really bad bed head. "Doesn't matter. I have something to tell you....I know where Steven is."

"What?!"
