You stared out towards the horizon, leaning against the side of the ship that you were sailing. The black night sky above was peppered with bright stars with a crescent moon shinning a faint light over the surface of the ocean. A small smile tugs at your lips as you look over the peaceful scene, listening to the waves crash over each other and gently hit the side of the boat. Most of your fellow crew members, save for the navigator, were fast asleep, but for some odd reason, you weren't able to sleep that night. Not that you minded. You enjoyed the ambiance of the night. The ocean was calm and the scene was beautiful. As you continue to watch over the gentle waves, a faint, gentle sound fills your ears. "Is that... singing?" You question softly, looking around for the source of the strangely beautiful noise. The only thing you could see in the faint light was a small cave formation in the distance. "Where is it coming from?" You knit your eyebrows in confusion. "Whoa!" You cry out, grabbing onto the edge of the boat as it turns sharply, heading towards the cave formation. You look up towards the helmsman, confused at the sudden change in direction. "What's going on?!" You call up, only to receive no response. You look over the side of the boat as you near the formation, noticing jagged rocks poking up from the ocean. "Hard to port! Hard to port! We're going to crash!" You shout up once more to the helmsman. You watch in fear as the ship continues to the rocks. You quickly turn and attempt to run to the control room, only to be thrown back by a sudden, sharp impact. You cry out as you fly back into the main mast, the blow from the impact knocking you out.
"Ugh..." You groan softly, slowly regaining consciousness. You could feel yourself laying down on your back, the tips of your toes buried in soft sand. 'Ugh... where am I?' You silently ask yourself. You attempt to lift your arms, only for your body to fail. 'I feel so weak... I can't even open my eyes...' You attempt once more to move, but your body falls weak once more. 'I can't move... What happened?' Images suddenly flash across your vision: The cave, the crash... and the singing. Why wouldn't the helmsman listen to you? He's normally very good at taking orders. You could feel yourself slowly being pulled into a gentle slumber, the only sound you could hear being the crashing noise of waves hitting a beach. You continue to doze off slightly, unaware of the looming shadow above you. Your entire body tenses as something small and soft gently grazes your face. As the thing continues to gently graze your facial features, your cheeks, your forehead, your nose, a gentle, female hum fills your ears. 'W-Who's that?' You think to yourself. You could feel your body relax with every note of the gentle tune. 'Why do I feel so... calm?' The woman stroking your face stops the motion for a brief moment before gently tangling your hair in her fingers. "Such a handsome sailor..." She whispers, stopping her gentle song. "I just may spare you..." She continues on, gently tugging at your hair. 'S-Spare? What does she mean by spare?' She lets out a gentle giggle. "Sleep now, my dear sailor." She whispers into your ear, sending chills throughout your body. You could feel your body slowly weaken, your mind slowly loosing consciousness once more. The last thing you heard was the whispered voice of the woman beside you. "I shall see you when you wake."
