ii - world post agatha

Jamie was sat in the passenger seat of his uncle's old Chevy pickup truck as the two drove from their home to the ice cream shop. Hurricane Agatha had just hit the previous night and the pair were really hoping the shop was still at least partially intact since the storm had made parts of the island nearly unrecognizable due to the destruction.

"Son of a bitch." Anderson groaned out as the two rolled up to the small building which was now devoid of a roof that was definitely there yesterday. His uncle slammed his hands on the wheel of the truck in anger and then proceeded to get out of the vehicle to assess the damage.

Jamie followed after him, feeling similarly at the sight of his family's main source of income being torn apart.

"Well it looks like most of the base is intact, damn Aggie just decided to rip the lid right off." Anderson sighed.

Jamie nodded, already dreading the fact that he was going to have to help with the repair of said roof. The torn up shack honestly didn't look that bad when you took into account the rest of the island. The power was out and everywhere you looked there was an uprooted tree, a fallen sign, or scattered debris that was thrown around by the high winds. It was definitely a depressing sight but it seemed as far as casualties go everything was alright. If something would have happened he definitely would have heard about it by now, even without service for the cell phones to work. Word travelled fast in a community as small as theirs.

"How long do you think its going to take to get some supplies here to start rebuilding?" Jamie questioned, knowing that everyone on the island was going to be in a rush to asses damages and repair what needed to be repaired, and it was no secret that the kooks were going to get first dibs on materials that were transported onto the island. There's not much people wouldn't do for a bigger paycheck and if that meant repairing mansions before restaurants and businesses then that's what was going to happen.

"Week at minimum, I can try and ask around to see if we can get anything in sooner from Heyward but who knows. Especially with the power down for God knows how long." His uncle replied dejectedly.

The two would get through it, they always did ever since Jamie was put into Anderson's care ten years ago after his single father passed away. Jamie never really looked into what had happened to his father in detail, it had something to do with his liver failing. He couldn't help but feel his dad brought it upon himself what with his fist always closed around a beer bottle. He didn't remember much about his life before the Outer Banks, but what he did wasn't necessarily terrible. Sure, his father wasn't around much, constantly out at the bars and whatnot leaving his son home alone to his own devices but it was peaceful for the most part. He'd spend his summer days shifting through the old records his dad kept for whatever reason, listening to bands like the Ramones and the Kinks to pass the time.
