Chapter 5: Severed Affiliation

It's morning. There it is again, the sounds of the thundering footsteps just outside my room. I got up earlier than I normally do. It's good to wake up early every now and then. I feel good about today. And oh- I almost forgot. These two slept at mine huh? Sorry in advance Nereus.

"GOOOOD MOOOORNING!!"

Gahahahahahahaha! The look on their faces and how fast they got up says it all.

"Geez A-A-Apollo, you gave me a h-heart attack."

"Ughh, you watch out as always, I'll get you back some day Apollo..."

I chuckled and started making my bed. That felt good, also bad at the same time, but I did get a good laugh. The two got up immediately and started rolling their sleeping bags. After I finished making the bed, I accompanied Nereus and Athena to return the sleeping bags in the storage room at the ground floor. It was near Sister Merri's office just right next to the doors leading out to the yard. As we arrived there, there seemed to be other kids that were putting some sleeping bags back as well, it looks like these two weren't the only ones who decided to have a sleepover with their friends huh. We then started heading towards the dining hall, walking past only a few children and the sisters. I assumed they had already arrived by the hall for breakfast.

We walked past the entrance meeting sister Merri along with two other sisters on the way. While the two sisters were whispering something with each other, I couldn't help but notice that Sister Merri has a troubled face.

"G-good morning.."

"Good morning to you Sisters!"

"Yo."

The Sisters said hello followed with a smile and wave. But I can't shake off the thought of something bothering Sister Merri. Aah, I shouldn't really worry, I think Sister Merri is more than capable of handling problems. She's probably thinking about something that's none of my business that she can take care of easily. But nevertheless, we continued walking towards the dining hall.

Most of the tables have been set as always and the children chatter with each other... Wait, that's right! It's the weekend! I quickly look at the calendar on the wall. YES! It's a Saturday! I didn't even realise. We get to do whatever we wish today! We go to our usual spot and ready ourselves to eat. Looking around the dining hall, the Sisters enter with the food trolley. It looks like it's pancake day today! The Sisters then distribute the plates to everyone in the dining room. Mmmm, two stacked pancakes served with a sweet syrup along with some blueberries and strawberries. We all dig in.

After breakfast, everyone decided to make way towards the yard. I haven't come up with anything to do yet so I suggested that we go outside with the other kids to see if there's anything interesting. I head outside with the two using the doors at the back of the dining hall and towards the yard.

The yard, despite being such a spacy area, seemed to have more kids than usual. Bright sun, calm breeze and the constant chattering and laughter of children. It's a good day. Look, even the group I used to hang out with is outside. Arne, Hina, Johan and Rebbeca. We usually hang out in the console room to play games. Other kids ran around, some sitting by the shelter and some playing with the swings, slides and roundabout.

"Hey guys!"

I hear a person from the distance calling out to someone.. I didn't think they were calling us but I still turned around in curiosity. Ah, Hendrick, I thought that voice did sound familiar.

"Come play tag with us! That includes you two as well, Nereus and Athena!"

Ooohh, I see. It turns out it was us that they were calling out. I looked at the two and nodded at them. Athena nods back.
