Chapter 7: False Purpose

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

The beeping noise continues. I... I fell asleep? Despite having my eyes closed, I was disturbed by the constant red flashes that appeared in time with the beeping noise. I sat up and wiped my eyes. It was quite dark in here but the red flash lights up the room as it flashes. As my vision got clearer, I could make out where the light was flashing from. It was the hand scanner. What in the world could this be about? I got up from my bed and sluggishly walked towards the hand scanner.

The beeping and the flashing is still going. I look at the screen and notice a bunch of numbers at the top of the screen. It's.. a countdown? Zero zero, zero one and thirty? Judging from where the one is placed, it must be in minutes. Oh, it just went down. One minute and twenty-eight seconds. Twenty-seven. Twenty-six. It just keeps going down. What does this mean?

Does it want me to.. Hmm, let's try it. I place my hand on the scanner. The flashing stops and the beeps fall silent. After a few seconds the scanner went green and I removed my hand from it.

"Good morning... Apollo."

The voice made me jump a bit. Lights started to turn on by themselves and there was a drawer that popped out from the wall near the door.

"Please change into these clothing and stand outside your room then wait for further instructions."

I grabbed the clothes and held it up high. It's a black one-piece suit that covers from toe to neck. Huh, this is quite unusual to say the least. There was a small oval thing at the front on the neck of the suit that had a red light. Curious that I am, I pressed it and the suit suddenly splits from the back. I didn't bother questioning it and just changed my clothes as soon as possible.

As soon as most of my body was in the suit I assumed that I would just need to press the button again and that I did. The suit went back to its original form and it started lighting up from top to bottom in an instant. Then a blue light in the shape of a circle emerged from my chest and lines started to go everywhere around my body. The door slides open and I exit my room.

"A-Apollo..."

I got greeted by Athena the moment I walked out, wearing the same one piece suit, it must be a uniform or something.

"Good m-"

"Apollo, look."

Athena points towards the opposite direction. To my surprise, there was a line of children waiting outside like us. What the actual hell is this? There are like, 5 other kids in here. It looks like I was right. There are other kids in here.

"Erm, hey, aahh, good morning... are you also new here?"

...

No response. Just staring blankly on the wall in front of them. What's up with them? There was a 'ding' sound, followed by the sound of the elevator doors opening and footsteps. It sounds like there's more than one person coming. I instinctively corrected my posture as they arrived. Then comes in Aiden with two other people who are in uniform just as I saw before. Their heads were covered by a helmet and their suit looked so bulked up. I assumed these were security guards.

"Good morning children. We will proceed to building six one six where you will have your meal, rest and then to your training. For you newcomers, this is our daily routine. Good thing you woke up in time, otherwise there would have been unfortunate circumstances."

What training? What circumstances? I don't understand. Frustrated that I am, I felt a burning sensation and wanted to express what I was feeling in this current situation. When I finally found my voice, I called out the first thing that came to mind.
