Scarlett sighed softly as she made her way through town noticing a dark figure making its way towards the market.

She quickly followed the figure to get a closer until she felt the eyes of the figure set onto her.

Hesitating she stood up facing the figure, "M-Mom?"

"I'm sorry, but you must have the wrong person." The voice said

She flinched as she looked over at the figure, she looked just like her mom.

Why does she smell of ash? Something of a volcano? Something a bird of rebirth smells like.

"Mom! Mom it is you! Please say something."

The woman was gone, this caused Scarlett to freeze and breakdown, she knew that woman was her mom.

She sighed softly shaking the thought away heading back through the town towards her home.

"Hey Scarlett!" A voice called out

She stopped and looked up towards a familiar face and waved gently.

Avery made her way her to her side with a gentle smile, "Want me to walk with you?"

"Oh uh yeah, that would be nice thank you." She said softly.

Scarlett was happy to have another friend by her side, she knew she was year older than she was.

She didn't care for that, she only cared that she had a friend who believed in her.

"Happy 20th birthday Scarlett, I wish I could've been there with you and everyone else but I gotten very busy."

"I understand, I was in the hospital for the entirety of my birthday so it seems fair that you. . ."

She stopped herself seeing her friend in tears, "A-Avery?"

"I wanted to be there! I wanted to see you happy, I wanted to see my best friend and my little brother have their first kiss together."

"I missed seeing my friend smiling and being happy despite all the bullshit that happened."

Scarlett stopped and started crying fists looking at her friend.

"Avery?" She said softly

Avery looked and wiped her own eyes, "S-Scarlett?"

"Don't beat yourself, I'm happy and you should be as well. Your brother and I have been talking about you."

"Really?" She asked wiping her eyes again.

"Of course! You're an amazing person, and a journalist. I'm glad to be your friend."

She smiled softly hugged her, "Same here, thank you for everything."
