A very chatty doctor was stitching up her foot.

Dr.: "So, I see the rings. You guys got any kids?"

Her expression fell and Sayid prepared to answer for her.

Dr.: "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean-"

She smiled lightly, "No. It's fine."

She blinked, tears coming to her eyes.

Her, voice breaking softly: "No. No, we don't."

The doctor put a bandage loosely over the stitches and stood, "Well, I'm all done here, just check out at reception and you're good to go."

The doctor left, closing the door. She let the fake smile go, covering her face with her shaking hand. Sayid swiftly moved to her, holding her as she cried into him. She forced herself to calm, starting to pull away. Sayid sniffled. He was crying, leaning his head against hers. She moved her hand to the back of his head, in his hair. They held each other as they calmed themselves. They hadn't talked about their loss at all, though they knew they were hurting.

Her hand was wrapped to prevent swelling and her foot was bare. She grew self conscious of her legs in the shorts. She limped, her arm around Sayids shoulders.

Sayid: "If you'd let me carry you, we might not be here all morning."

Her, sarcastically: "Funny."

Sayid tilted his head at her.

Her: "Fine, but-"

She's interrupted by Sayid literally sweeping her off her feet and into his arms. She laughs lightly and he carries her out the door, pushing it open with his foot. He carries her to the car, the sun peaking over the buildings, a pink and orange glow across the sky. Sayid sets her down in front of the passenger seat door. She slides her hands up his torso and into his hair, holding his face in her hands as she kisses him. She feels Sayids breath on her cheek as the kiss deepens. Sayid lifts her, her legs around his waist as he leans her against the car.

She didn't realize she was crying again until a tear slipped between their lips. Sayid slowly pulled away, staying incredibly close. She gave a short gasp and Sayid continued to look at her, his expression pained. She cried, squeaking as she tried to choke it back. Sayid held her closer, her head in his shoulder. He clung to her, rocking slightly while he breathed her in. He cried with her, though quieter.

Sayid hadn't known until it was too late, he hadn't pictured a future with their son or daughter. She had. She pictured Sayids face as she told him. The names they'd consider, and the beautiful one they'd pick, whatever it would've been. She pictured Sayid holding a baby. Her baby.

Her: "I was gonna tell you... on our anniversary."

Sayids face contorted to real, gut wrenching pain as he buried his face in her hair.

Her: "I kept the test."

That's what he saw on the floor. The first evidence of a life they could've had.

Her, sobbing now: "Sayid..."

He clutched her, then realized he could be hurting her still healing wounds. He pulled them apart and studied her, her legs and arms still wrapped around him. It didn't look like he'd hurt her, and her pain looked emotional. He brushed away some of her tears as he watched her.

Her: "I can't have kids."

The doctors had said that her insides were destroyed, incapable of carrying another child.

Her, breaking into a sob: "I'm broken."

Sayid didn't know how to make this better.

Her: "You can't be a dad. Not with me."

Sayid: "You're all I need."

And that was how he could make it better. Just a bit better.

Sayid kissed her cheek and buried his face in her hair again.

Sayid: "You're all I need."
