Patience

"Alright. So now you're going to want to take some hair cream and moisturize this little portion- NO NOT THAT MUCH!!!!" I said to Chris as he dug in my jar of moisturizer with half of his hand. "We use a lot but that's not what I meant baby." "Sorry, you weren't specific!" He said chuckling. Chris decided that he wanted to help me prep for a twist out, so I let him do a pretty harmless step, the moisturizing. "This whole jar is like $20 and half of it is literally in your big ass hand, come on now I ain't made of money like you." I said hitting his arm.

He put the cream back in the jar. "Did you remember in about a couple hours I'm going to dinner with some of the guys? I meant to ask what you planned on doing for dinner." "Oh that's right. I'll probably end up with Justina again. Who's coming?" "It's a pretty big group. I invited a few college buddies, Ruffalo, Downey, Sebastian and Mackie will be there-" "WHAT I haven't seen them in so long why can't I go?!?" I said annoyed. "Well, sweetie they were my friends first...and you don't have to be a part of every gathering we have you know? It's just one evening and we wanted to do a big get together...just us guys."He said cleaning off his hands on my hair towel.

"Fine whatever. I guess I'll just be here, all alone...lonely and depressed because my only companions are meeting without me" I said dramatically falling out in my chair.

"Yeah ok. How about to make it up to you we watch a movie later?" "I suppose that'll help." I said as he left the bathroom. I didn't say anything but I find this meet up a little suspicious in all honesty. "The Guys" don't all live in Massachusetts, let alone the United States. It's very bizarre that they'd all be meeting and I'm not invited. Which means that there is a reason that I wasn't invited. Now I could try to be slick and ask Robert why I wouldn't be allowed to come, but he wouldn't tell me anyway.

I finished twisting up my hair while watching A Different World, my favorite show growing up besides Boy Meets World. After I did I threw on a head scarf and went out to meet Justina and her new girlfriend Maya at her house. there's no way Chris was gonna go have fun and I'd be locked up in the house. We sat around her kitchen table as we ate Chinese and talked about stuff.

"Alright, so I think Chris has been acting a little weird." "Weird how?" She said eating orange chicken. "It's not 'bad'...I just feel like he isn't telling me something. Like the other day his sisters, brother and parents came over for dinner. I was cleaning up some stuff in the kitchen with his mom. I went to the living room to pick up everyone's dirty plates and they all just stopped talking mid conversation. I kept moving along like I didn't notice, I wasn't gonna make it awkward, but it was obvious that I wasn't supposed to hear the conversation. I went back in the kitchen and they resumed like nothing happened."

"Alright...who suggested to go wash the dishes?" "His mom, she offered to get ahead on the cleaning with me." "Mhm. She did that to get you out of the room." Maya said pointing to me. Justina nodded her head in agreement and excitement, with a mouth full of Lo mein. "Really?" "Yeah yeah yeah! And it lines up with you not being invited to this whole gathering thing tonight. He's planning something babe." Justina said tilting her head side to side.

"Like what? Something like what?" I said. "Ok how clueless can you be. He's about to propose." Justina said. My eyes widened and my heart sank. Of course that was the first thing that I thought of but I thought it was a stretch. "I mean why else would he be having these conversations where you aren't present?" "I mean sure, but don't you think he'd do a better job at hiding the fact that he's about to do it? I mean come on now, he knows I'm not dumb." "He may not be trying to keep it a secret, I mean have you guys talked about marriage?" "Yeah...a couple months ago we introduced the subject and then he brought up it up again not long after."

"Ok, so he may not be telling you what he's planning but it'd be a little strange if you knew more than what you do. Have you thought about rings?" "No...ok yes. But I don't know the idea of ring shopping feels a little inorganic to me. I like the surprising element." "Sis why do you think he hasn't taken you shopping then? I'm willing to bet he's already picked it out." Maya said sitting back in her chair confidently. "Aw baby you're so smart." Justina said all cute nudging her shoulder. I forgot how cute and annoying the honeymoon phase is in new relationships.

I'm feeling excited and disappointed. Excited because it's obvious that he's tryna wife me up, and disappointed because now I'm on edge looking for clues. I didn't want it to be that way. I always thought the girl wasn't supposed to have any idea and then one day it's just a complete shock. I don't know, I'm probably overreacting. For all I know he's probably not even planning anything.

....

We both got back home a little after ten, too tired to watch the movie like we planned. Instead we just snuggled up. I promise you the best and most satisfying place to lay in the world, is on this mans chest as he gently strokes your sides and back. The minute I lay down, I'm basically out for the night. At that point you reach the highest level of Zen possible .Though tonight was a little different, I had the whole "potential proposal" thing on my mind.

"So how was dinner at Justina's" "it was nice. Her new girlfriend seems great...she has my stamp of approval so far." I said making him chuckle. "What about you? How was the big dinner?" "Well, Downey got drunk and we had to call him a ride to his New England Property' and I filled up on Jalepeno Poppers, I might be a little gassy later." He said. I sat up and looked at him in disgust making him laugh.

He pulled me back down in to a hug. It was quiet for a moment. "So I can't lie to you. I feel like you aren't telling me something." "Yeah? Is there something you wanna know?" He said in a low, curious sounding voice. "...Have you given any more thought to us um, 'tying the knot'?" I said. "As a matter of fact, I have. Why do you ask?" "Because I have...a lot. I don't want you to feel like I'm pressuring you to know when or how...but can I at least know that it will happen?" I said.

He sat up some, and looked down at me, slightly squinting his eyes. "You wanna know what I think? I think, that you know that it is happening. No actually, I know that you are clear that it is happening...I think you really just want to know if it is happening soon." "No I didn't say that-" "And you didn't have to. Don't worry, you know just as much as you should." He said stroking my arm. "And what you mean by that?"
I said with a raised tone in my voice, making him chuckle. "Baby...look at me. I can assure you: When it happens, you won't even know what hit you. When it happens you will be blind sided. But, since you still want me to believe that you want 'confirmation' that it is happening-" he said before grabbing my face.

"Someday, I am going to get down on one knee, and ask the question I've wanted to ask you since I met you at the bar. However you think it is going to happen, probably isn't the case, whoever you think is involved may or may not be, and when you think it will happen, probably ain't it. So, now that you are clear, you can let me do my job of working it out, and your job, of not worrying and being the most incredible girlfriend in the world. You just need a little patience, K?"  He said. I nodded my head.

This man knows me so well...to the point that he knew that I was always on to him. That's actually really hot. "Mmm. I kinda like you being that assertive." "I noticed." He said as we both snuggled back up. He turned out the light and put the covers back on top of us. "Oh and uh by the way.....Justina is in on it too." "WAIT HOW?!?!?" I exclaimed.
