Chapter 5: profiles and surprises

After 10 minutes, Tomioka went to Shinobu's condominium unit to have dinner with them. His knocks were answered by Shinobu. The smell of the food prepared met him as he enters the apartment. The smell made his mouth water.

"I'm sorry for Kanao's 'outburst' earlier. She isn't really talkative but situations like that made her blabber than she used to," Shinobu explained as they walk, laughing wholeheartedly at the thought of her little sister. Tomioka smiled as it reminded him of his sister but quickly dismissed his action.

Tomioka took in the scene in front of him. The condominium is big and clean; good for a family of five. It has four rooms, a large kitchen, and a spacious living room.

Kanao bowed and greet Tomioka, "Please, sit here, Tomioka-san."
Tomioka obliged. He is not good at memorizing names of people but he does recognize those faces from the Kamado Café.

These must be Kanao and Aoi that Tanjirou is referring to yesterday.

The food was amazing. Tomioka wondered how can they make food so delicious. He silently thanked himself while chewing for walking Shinobu home, thus, having this kind of reward. It was marvelous. Just by the sight of the supper made Tomioka salivate.

Everything was perfect. Everyone is enjoying the food. At least that was what Shinobu thought. She noticed how the eyebrows of Aoi are creasing.
Aoi is simply wondering why Tomioka walked Shinobu. In the first place, she was expecting that her sister and Mitsuri are the ones who will walk home together.

Taking a bite, Shinobu asked Aoi, "Is there something wrong?"

"Are you dating our sister?" Aoi said, surprising everyone, even Tomioka but easily composed himself. However, it had the opposite effect on Shinobu as she was blushing madly.

"No. I walked her home because it is the right thing to do." Tomioka simply replied.

Still not convinced with his answer, Aoi pressed more questions. "Hmmm," thinking, "Then why did you walk her home late? She's supposed to be here a while ago. Did you guys go on a date?"

Aoi interrogated Tomioka while Kanao is oblivious at what is happening and continued eating. Meanwhile, Shinobu's blush hardened.

"Aoi, it's not like tha-"

"I saw her in the park. I offered to walk her home because it's dark already and not safe to be alone at that time."

"Hmmm..." Aoi's attention shifted from Tomioka to Shinobu, "then why are you late? Mitsuri-chan is supposed to be with you. Where is she anyway?"

Shinobu sweatdropped at Aoi's strictness.

"First, Mitsuri was picked up by Iguro-san because they have a date, and then..." Shinobu trailed, "Douma came and-"

"Again?" Aoi interrupted, "I can't believe that guy's still pestering you after turning him down many times already!" irritation can be heard in her tone.

"I know, I know," Shinobu sweatdropped, "The man just really can't take a hint."

"Douma?" asked Tomioka.

"The guy," all eyes snapped at her as if forgetting that she was there with them, "that is always shoving himself to Shinobu-nee even if she clearly dislikes him," explained Kanao quietly.

Aoi nodded at every word Kanao said.

"Ah! I've got an idea!" Aoi exclaimed while standing up bringing all of her attention to her, "Can you please look after our Shinobu-nee? Walk her home every day to keep that perverted Douma away from her, please!" Aoi bowed and clasped her hand together as she begged Tomioka.
