"Kehlani, we've been with each other for years and..." my voice trails softly as I ponder what words I should write next. To save myself from writer's block, I decide to look up 'marriage proposal samples' on the Google search box from my smartphone to find samples that inspire me. The results pop up in front of my eyes to discover countless images of marriage proposal speeches and my eyes wander one of them and I feel like doing a backflip in my room. I found it! With the pencil being in a tight grip of my hand, I continue writing the words on the lined sheet of paper from the notebook I ripped out of.

The pen forms each and every letter that I could memorize. "Kehlani, we've been with each other for years. You make me the happiest, lucky man to have you in my life. I could never imagine a day without you in my life because you make my life complete along with the kids that we are raising together. You made me the better person and you have showed me the true meaning of true love. I take you to be my partner, loving what I know of you and trusting what I don't know yet. Kehlani, I promise to respect you as an equal as well as recognizing that your interest, desires, and needs are as important as mine. I promise to laugh with you when times are good and endure with you when times are bad. I can't wait to grow old together and falling in love a little more everyday. That should be it, right? I want this speech to be perfect for tonight as I profess the love of the future that I would love to share with Kehlani and our kids. I stand up from the couch just as the theme song of Live PD plays on the TV.

"Dad, where do you want me to put this?" Kelly questions as Tessa is holding the unplugged lighted signs. The week of the Superbowl, which was last week; I told the kids about my 'Plan P' to discuss them about wanting to ask Kehlani to be my wife as well as being Kelly and Theo Bear's 'bonus mom'. Kehlani doesn't like the term 'step-mother' or 'step-mom' because she thinks they are evil like Cinderella's step-mother and two step-sisters, which is understandable. The kids are super elated, especially Kelly and Theodore because they are having their bonus mom that establishes a network of support, love, and nurture. Tessa, on the hand, is elated also because she used to interrogate me about when I would ask Kehlani to marry me when she was two years old

"How about putting it by the wall?" I suggest. Both Kelly and Tessa nod their heads before doing what I tell them as Theodore is placing multi-colored Post-It notes on the wall in an askew arrangement while my dad is sweeping the floor just as my brother Doug is helping Harper bake cookies coming from the... cake box?

"You could actually make cookies out of a cake box?"

"Yeah, I saw mom and Gracie baking them for the annual bake sale when Sasha was in town." Doug gives a reminiscent smile as he looks back at the time Sasha came out here to see Doug and Kehlani for a week.

"Your mother and I will watch the kids tonight. How about that?" My dad favors.

"Thank you, dad."

"It's never a problem, son."

"Seriously, though, bro; we're all profoundly glad that you're asking your true love to marry you. Kehlani has always been the one for you. You can see clearly now the rain is gone..." Doug sings the chorus of Jimmy Cliff's "I Can See Clearly Now".

Dad sings the next words that comes after. "That Claritin commercial rediscovered my search for that song." My dad says.

"I really like that song when I was growing up in the brownstone in the Bedford-Stuvesant area back in my heyday." Mr. Brown reminisces. Mr. Brown along with Anthony and Tyler are putting up Polaroid pictures of Key and I with some of the pictures contains Tessa old and new as well as with Kelly, Theodore, and Harper.
