I open my eyes and see Raven laying next to me. She seems so peaceful while she sleeps, she doesn't really have nightmares anymore, she used to have them almost every night because of everything she went through at the camp where she almost died. But now she is focused on the fact that she is going to be a mom in six months. I can't believe I'm going to be a dad in six months.
I get out of bed slowly, making sure not to wake her up. I go downstairs and into the kitchen. I grab the eggs out of the fridge and put a pan on the stove. I start to cook the eggs and grab another pan and put bacon on to start cooking. Belle and Qwin come downstairs, smelling the food on the stove.
"Whatcha doing?" Qwin asks.
"Cooking breakfast for Raven. Breakfast in bed," I answer. "Don't worry I'll make more for you guys after she eats."
"You're so sweet, thank you." Belle says.
"You guys just hang out down here okay?" I say, trying to make it sound like a suggestion not a 'do what your told' moment since both of them are not my kids.
"Okay." They both say. I put a plate with the eggs and bacon on it on a tray and make it all pretty. I pick it up and take it up to our bedroom.
"Raven, wake up sleepy head." I whisper. She rolls over and opens her eyes. She smiles. "Good morning."
"Morning." She slowly sits up and sets the pillows up so she can sit up with the pillows behind her head. I turn on the tv and sit next to her, putting my arm around her shoulders. She kisses me and I don't want her to stop. I want to curl up in this bed with her and stay like that forever. She lets go and starts to eat the eggs. We watch the news while she eats.
I go back downstairs and put the dishes in the sink. I put some more eggs and bacon on for Qwin and Belle. Raven comes down wearing a black and white stripped t-shirt and yoga pants with only socks on her feet. Her hair in a braid. She comes into the kitchen and puts her arms around me. She kisses me on the cheek and goes into the living room. I pull the eggs off of the heat and separate them onto two plates, and do the same with the bacon. I pick the plates up and take them into the living room. Belle is sitting in the chair. Qwin and Raven are sitting on the couch at opposite ends, feet up. I hear something similar to gunshots on the TV.
"Belle, Qwin I have your breakfast," I hand it to them, "careful it's hot." Qwin sits up so she can eat so I sit in between her and Raven. Raven switches position so she is laying with her head on my lap. I put my hand over hers on her chest.
"Raven I need to do your check-up." Belle says after finishing her food.
"Okay, can we do it upstairs in the bedroom?" Raven asks.
"Yeah, that's fine." Belle answers.
"Okay. You going to join us Josh?" Raven asks.
"Yep." I say. She goes upstairs, Belle following her, I behind them. Raven and I go into our bedroom and Raven lays down on the bed. Belle went to her room to get the ultra-sound equipment. Raven lays down on the bed and grabs hold of my hand.
"What do you think we should name it?" Raven asks.
"I don't know. What are you thinking?" I answer.
"I was thinking Remi for a girl and Noah for a boy or Sophie for a girl and Keating for a boy, I haven't been able to decide though." She says.
"I like Remi for a girl and Noah for a boy." I say. I kiss her on the forehead still struggling to believe that we are going to be parents in six months.
Belle comes back in with the ultra-sound equipment and Raven rolls her shirt up and her pants down. Belle squeezes the cool gel on her stomach and puts the wand tool where she put the gel. I hear the heart beat coming from the machine.
"How does it look?" Raven asks.
"Good. The baby looks perfectly healthy. Do you guys want to know the gender?" Belle answers.
"Yes!" Raven and I answer at the same time.
"Qwin you might want to come up here!" I shout down the stairs. Qwin comes rushing up the stairs, almost falling as she does.
"Yeah, what's a matter?" Qwin asks.
"Nothing, I just thought you might want to be here when we find out the gender of the baby." I answer.
"Oh, thank you." She says.
"What's the gender?!" Raven says.
"The gender is..." Belle laughs, "Girl!"
Raven and I hug each other and kiss out of excitement. We both are almost to tears.
"Awe, little Remi..." Raven says. I smile and kiss her again, so happy to be having our child together, with everything we've been through, we've always been a team. I love her so much and always will, and there is no doubt in my mind that we will be together until we die.
"I love you so much." I say, I kiss her and then kiss her stomach, forgetting that there is still some gel on her stomach and I taste it when my lips touch her skin. I laugh at the horrible taste of it.
"I love you too." She kisses me back again and we both stay there for a minute embracing each other in love.
