Mia folds her arms and slumps in her chair as the Sheriff talks to her. "I don't know what to tell you, okay? It's not mine." Mia says as she looks at the red pencil pouch with steroids in it."We found these in the dresser drawer between Clay and Justin's beds. Justin said it wasn't his, and he said it wasn't Clay's." The Sheriff states. "You've had a history with drug problems and you had some in your locker a few weeks ago."
Mia inhales, and scoffs. "I don't get it. I tell the truth and you guys still bash me. So what, I lie and say those are mine and you...arrest me?" Mia questions, raising her eyebrows. The Sheriff sighs, obviously annoyed. Mia tilts her head, "Am I allowed to go now?" She shrugs.
Mia leaves the office and exhales. Those steroids weren't Justin's or Clay's, and they weren't hers. She had to talk to Clay, see how he was doing. "Mia!" A voice calls out to her. Mia turns and sees Jessica walking over to her.
Mia presses her lips together. "Hey, Jess. What's up?" She questions.
Jessica inhales, "I never...I never apologized to you. About the funeral, and about what Casey and the other girls did. I'm sorry, I didn't want that to happen, I really didn't." Jessica says to the blonde.
Mia smiles softly, "Jess...I know you didn't. And that's why I never attacked you or threw my anger out on you about it." Mia shrugs.
Jessica inhales and nods her head. Mia notices a dim look in her eyes. "Are you...okay?" Mia questions.
Jessica shakes her head. "Tyler...he told me what happened to him, and he showed me the video." Jessica states.
Mia licks her lips. "I'm glad he did that. Did he tell you anything else, like...about my brother?" Mia questions.
Jessica raises her brows, "Did he tell you too, about what Bryce did for him?" Jessica questions in a hushed tone. Mia nods her head. "Yeah, and Bryce told me about it. About what he wanted to do, and..." Mia shakes her head in slight disbelief. "It shocked me, but I knew that he wanted to change...he wanted to be different for the better, he tried." Mia shrugs. She looks at Jessica and notices her timid look.
"And I'm not saying that he's redeemable or that he should've been forgiven. I'm just saying...he tried." Mia bites the inside of her cheek. Jessica nods her head.
"You know, you and me...we should hang out again. Like we used to." Jessica smiles.
Mia chuckles, "Yeah, we should. Without all this crap happening to us." Mia says.
Jessica smirks, "Yeah, we need a break."
==========
Mia knocks on the door and she waits for a moment before the door opens. "Mia, hey." Justin greets her. Mia gives him a small smile. "Hey, is Clay here? I just...wanted to talk." Mia sighs.
Justin looks over to Clay and steps aside. Mia steps into the house and sees Clay sitting on the bed. He stands up, his eyes still on hers. Justin looks at them, "Uh...I'm gonna give you guys some time." Justin walks out, leaving the couple alone. Silence develops in the room, Clay nervously rubs his hands against his jeans.
"Mia, I'm sorry I didn't say anything when you told me about John." Clay apologizes. Mia shakes her head. "Clay, it's okay." Mia says.
Clay shakes his head this time, "No, it's not. It's not okay, I-I should be there for you, but I've been stressing out so much that I haven't being paying a lot of attention to you." Clay says, disappointed in himself.
Mia quietly chuckles, "You have every right to be stressing out, and you have every right to not be paying attention to me." Mia walks over to him.
Clay shakes his head, "No, I don't. I love you, Mia. And I'm so sorry, that haven't been there for you. Especially with your relapse. That's not fair, we're supposed to be in this together. You and me." Clay shakes looks down at his hands. Mia's eyes soften, she moves her hand to Clay's and intertwine their fingers together.
"Clay, I could say the same about me. I've been avoiding this whole case, because...I just don't want to have myself fall back into that dark place how I was with...Hannah and Jeff." Mia states.
"I know you didn't kill Bryce. I know it, and yet I haven't been doing anything to help you clear your name. That's not fair." Mia adds.
Clay chuckles, "I guess...we both have to learn how to do better, huh?" He inquires.
Mia presses her lips together and nods her head. "Yeah, we do." Mia says.
Mia stands on her toes and kisses Clay. "I love you too." she whispers. "And..." Mia stands on the flats of her feet. Clay looks down at her. "When I said that I went to see John. It wasn't like--at his house, I mean...I saw him when I visited him in jail." Mia explains.
Clay pulls his face back a bit. "You went to see him in prison?" He questions.
Mia nods her head, "Yeah, I just...I wanted some closure. Show him that, he didn't break me...all the way. I'm better--getting better." Mia says looking at him. Clay places his hand on her cheek and traces her jawline with his thumb. "I'm so proud of you." Clay says in a soft voice.
Butterflies form in Mia's stomach as he says that. She hasn't heard those words in so long. The last time she heard those words...she said them to Bryce. Mia wraps her arms around Clay's neck and pulls him into a warm hug. Clay closes his eyes and hugs her back. He wanted to stay there with her forever. She was so warm, and she was so good to him. He just hopes that she'll forgive him.
