Without a moments hestitation I sent a blast of pure light searing through the darkness, striking the observer across the chest. He lost balance, falling to the ground below with a satisfying thud.
I had merely stunned him, but that drop would ensure he didn't wake up for at least an hour.
The danger hadn't passed yet, whoever he was - whatever he was - there was sure to be more nearby, and I didn't want to be around when they realised he was missing.
A quick scan of the area using my night-vision lens yeilded no further lifeforms. I sheathed my gun and started to briskly make my way towards him. I'd only gotten a few steps when the Ambassador grabbed my arm.
"Kill him."
He ordered through gritted teeth, but I shook my head,"I am the overseer of this mission, as such it is my duty to ensure the Company's protocols are met."
I paused, slighlty unsure of myself. As if sensing my unease he scoffed, but I continued,
"He is to be taken on board for questioning. The Company will determine his sentence."
He glared at me but made no further move as I yanked my arm from his grip, striding away with newfound confidence.
I approached the male, whose feautres were covered by a mop of ebony hair. Despite the fall he didn't appear to be too hurt, the lucky bastard.
"Damnn this one's got wings!"
An obnoxious voice next to me exclaimed. I rolled my eyes as the rest of the team gathered around,"Take him into the holding cell,"
I said curtly, unamused by my colleagues gushings. With that I made my way back to the ship, inside the Ambassador paced the length of the meeting room.
"The mission is cancelled, they haven't upheld their end of the bargain. We leave tonight."
I stated plainly, but the exasperated expression on his face only worsened."And what? Return empty-handed?"
He shook his head vigorously,"This is the second bargain to fall through this month, if I return like this they'll strip me if my rank."
"Then what would you have us do?"
I crossed my arms, curious to see how this would play out."Visit another planet, I know a certain supplier who's offered on more than one occasion to provide us with the figures we require."
I raised an eyebrow.
"We'll be back within the week as planned, the Company only cares about the figures - they don't care where we get them from."
Now it was my turn to shake my head,
"Absolutely not, if the Company were so disinterested in acquisition methods they would not have sent me along to monitor the mission."
The fake smile faded from his face, a seething glare taking its place.
"That there is your problem Ghost, you're far too predictable."
A cruel laugh escaped his lips,"Always following orders like a mutt."
I internally flinched, though my outward expression remained one of cool indifference.
"Take her to the holding cell."
He comanded someone behind me.Before I could so much as process what was happening I was grabbed from behind, holding me in place as a tranquilizer was injected into my arm.
"Alright team.......a meteor shower incoming......if we don't leave the atmosphere......be stuck on this blasted planet for..."
I felt myself drifting far away into the depths of sleep, powerless against the effects of the drug. As my anger faded with my conciousness I could only think of one thing.
Revenge.
