The sound made them both jump.

"What the fuck was-" But a hand over his mouth stopped him.

Before he had the chance to be pissed off, the feeling of her body against his nearly made him burst into flames.

"Brace yourself." She whispered.

He nodded as he wrapped his arms around her waist. She was so warm. And held his eyes shut when the humming started in his legs again. Moving upwards to his thighs, and then his pelvis ~ his chest...shoulders...and then he just let himself float with her.

He could hear her voice as their bodies coiled around one another.

"Just relax."

"I know. Shut up."

The sound came from below them. Eager footsteps that clicked against crunching rubble pattering faster. Are they getting closer or were they just moving? He couldn't tell. He had no eyes or a head to turn to find out. He could only listen. Was that how she got around? He thought. How good did her quirk make her hearing? He pondered. But each thought was faster than the last. Floating around in his head, words that tugged on themselves becoming scattered. Wavy. Loose. He didn't feel like himself. Or was he just not feeling anything?

Her quirk's really tripping me out.

"You just transitioned a whole new state of matter." Her voice echoed in his head. "You're brain's just having a hard time coping with that."

"You listening to my thoughts?"

"More like your thoughts are leaking into mine. ~Try focusing on something. It'll help keep you from disassociating."

"Like what? I can't fucking see!"

"Like not yelling in my head, smartass." He wanted to scowl at that but he didn't have a face. "Try separating your thoughts from mine. Maybe then I could finally focus on whatever just made that noise."

He wanted to bite back at her for that but he couldn't quite focus on the correct response. He couldn't focus on any response. Try focusing on something. The footsteps were in the room now. No voices but movement. That was weird. He thought. Maybe they're hiding too? He couldn't make sense of it.

But she could. And she knew exactly who it was.

Silently she kicked herself for being so open with that piece of information. If it weren't for the metal soles on the bottom of his shoes she would have taken it for anybody. But this was a fight she couldn't afford just yet. At least. It was a fight she didn't want to face just yet.

He had to have known they were already here. Maybe he heard them talking about it before the course began? Maybe he saw them through the windows? Whatever it was, the cards were stacked against them. And they needed to leave.

"Deku! I think they're-"

"Shh." He stopped her. And then there was nothing again.

"Fucking Deku?"

"I'm getting us out of here."

"What? No, let's-"

"Bakugou. We don't want this fight right now. Trust me."

"What are you on about? What? You underestimating me? Don't think that I can win against that green bastard?!"

"That's not what I'm saying."

"Then what are you saying, huh? What are you-"

They hit the ground with a loud thud! Loose rocks and wood chips hitting the fabric of her suit hard enough to leave jagged bruises in her flesh. Her head spun as she tried to pull herself back together.

But he was too aggravated to let the sudden change in matter disorient him. She had gotten them far before his brash and abrupt change in attitude ripped them apart. And somehow that made him feel like he was running away.

From him. That shitty fucking loser. Like I couldn't beat him.

"Oi!" He growled as he pulled himself off the ground.

"You got a lotta fucking nerve getting in my way like that!" He spat. (Maybe if he wasn't as angry he would have noticed the brief flash of terror in her eyes. )"I don't know about you but I don't run away from a fucking fight ~ If we're going to make this shit work you need to understand that!"

Standing back on her feet, she doubled his glare with one like hellfire. "It's called tactical awareness, you asshole. Not every fight has to be faced head-on. We were at a disadvantage, we couldn't-"

"You were at a disadvantage. Not me. I know what I'm capable of."

She let out an exasperated sigh. "Look, I don't know if you might have missed it or what~ but we are a team. We can't just base our probability of success on how big you might think your dick is!" She stepped up to him. "They snuck up on us and we got away by the skin on our teeth. Maybe if you could get that through your three-ton fucking skull we could finally get somewhere!"

He bent down to meet her eyes. A look of fury that had become much too accustomed to the both of them. He didn't know if it was anger that made his heart race or excitement. But what she knew is that she could smell the pleasant mint on his breath as he spoke. "Listen here, princess. We need to get one thing fucking straight: There is a huge gap in dominion when it comes to the two of us. I'm the number one in this duo. My "three-ton" fucking skull is the one that calls the shots around here." He inched even closer, his breath hot on her lips. "And the sooner you get that? The better." He squinted. "Learn who the fuck you're talking to next time."

He didn't know why but her response filled him with an eagerness he couldn't even describe. "Eat shit." She hissed.

"Hey, guys?" The humored shout that called them from behind caught their attention.

Kirishima snickered, slamming his hardened fists together. "You two gonna make out before or after we kick your butts?"
