Finally Found You

NINE

Fitz stood beside Sophie's cot, staring at Elwin as if he's seeing a ghost.

"Fitz, look, I know you're worried about Sophie, I am too, but I need you to tell me what happened so I know what's wrong with her." Elwin turned around, facing Fitz.

"Can't you just flash your light orb thingies on her? Isn't that what you do every time?" Fitz said slowly, snapping out of his daze.

"I already have, but this is more complex than regular injuries. I need to know exactly what happened to her in order to figure out how she got into this state."

"I pressured her into telling me her secret and when she said she liked me I freaked out so she thought I didn't like her back but when I told her I liked her too she said I was only saying that to make her fell better and then she started acting all funny so I came to you." Fitz's face is now fully red and more than ready to turn into a shade of purple any moment now.

"So... you're saying she had a mental breakdown. Man, Fitz, this is more complicated than I thought it would be." Elwin said, shaking his head as he took an elixir and poured it down Sophie's mouth.

With that, Fitz's flushed face turned pale white almost immediately. "Why? What happened to her? What's a mental breakdown? Is it serious? How can help? And- wait is that a sedative you just gave her?!" And his face is crimson all over again, with anger this time. "You know what she thinks of sedatives! Why did you just do that? Do you even know what she's going to think of this when she wakes up?!"

"Whoa there, hold your horses Fitz. Geez, now you're making me think you're having a mental breakdown as well. And to answer your question, yes I know what Sophie thinks of sedatives, but it's the only way to help her rest. Oh, and the kind of mental breakdown she's having is a defense mechanism, her brain tells her not to believe certain things so that she won't be hurt as much as it should if it turns out to be wrong."

"No no no no no. It's all my fault, I gave her that mental breakdown, if I had reacted-" Fitz was pacing back and forth whispering to himself when Elwin cut him off.

"Don't you dare go over there son, you hear me? You know what can happen with that guilt of yours. Do you want Sophie here to wake up and find you all broken to pieces when she needs you the most? What's going to happen when she finds out that you're broken because of her? She going to go through the same process as you are right now, rambling on and on about how it's all her fault, and get broken into pieces too with all that guilt piling up inside her. And don't give me that look Fitz, In certain ways it is kind of your fault, but don't blame yourself for it, a lot of people care about you son, Sophie cares about you, more than you think." With that said, he walked back into his office, giving Fitz some space and time alone with Sophie.
