2002,
year of the crow
___

demelza clement was furious.

so furious that when she flung the man that had stood by the door she was indignantly moving towards, his neck made a splintering sound as it cracked against a nearby turquoise wall.

she'd killed him.

demelza had no time to ponder on her actions—she had to get to idina quick; before reinforcements showed.

she turned to give her a son a quick glance.

grabbing his little, oh so fragile shoulders, she gave him a quick peck on the forehead. he looked back at her eyes wide and unaware, before turning back his attention to the milk cartoon in his hand.

"hoseokie, i'll be real quick, okay. don't wander off."

the only response he gave was the prompt sucking of the straw as he drank.

demelza hurriedly pushed open the door, obsidian clothes scraping against the mahogany door.

"kieran hadn't i already requested of you to stop snooping around—"

there she was.

"demelza?"

kang idina was sat slumped against her chair, papers adorning her maroon table. their eyes met briefly, just a second, and it was enough to spark glacial flames in demelza's eyes.

"what did you do?" not subtle. her shadow was suddenly humming a high pitched noise that sent a bolt of power through the air and with the tingle of lightening on the breeze a woman climbed out of the blackness, stepping through her shadow until it fell.

"demelza, listen to me-," idina frantically tried to explain, stepping backwards.

" where the hell is he!"

demelza quickly moved towards the veiled windows. she ripped them all one by one — they were heavy and caked with dust and spiderwebs—and watched as idina shrinked in terror. it was the first time she had seen the other woman look so vulnerably puny and it gave her sense of thrill.

"stop that! stop that right now!"

"what have you done to him!"

idina dropped on all fours and desperately scampered underneath her desk, howling as she felt the suns heat scorching against the back of her heel.

"nothing!"

demelza all but launched herself at her, claws raised to grab hold of the other woman's painted waves. idina let out a strangled cry, struggling in the grasp.

demelza dragged her along the floor—the way one dragged a lamb to the slaughter table— demanding answers in a frenzy.

"i told you to leave me alone—leave my family alone; where is he? did you kill him!"
