"Hey losers, hands and knees now!" Olivia orders at each of the Pogues, minus her brother who was currently working on Cameron's big boat. "Right here? In front of everyone?" JJ smirks. She smacks him on the back of his head with a rag and chucks two others at Kie and Pope. "Olivia you know I love you but I've got an essay to write". "Pope you've got to be shitting me. DCS is going to be here, in like 24 hours and the chateau is a shit show. Either you can help your best friends stay in the Outer Banks or you can singlehandedly be at fault when me and John B get shipped off to some cult family on the mainland." Without a reply, Pope nods and gets to work.
Truth is, Olivia was stressed out of her damn mind. To sum it up, her dad died, Mom was god knows where and her legal guardian Uncle T was probably wasting all his money in the slots. But tomorrow the bitch herself, Cheryl from DCS was coming over to see our shit show of a house and missing guardian Uncle T. The distraction was nice though, it meant her alluding thoughts were silenced for the time being. As of right now, she was winning her mental battle, especially with the help of her friends, but sometimes they did spark up.
Suddenly, John B storms through the door, a crate of beers in hand "Stop what you're doing, we're getting wasted." Apparently, a storm was brewing and the chances of DCS now making an appearance was slim to none. Olivia wasn't much of a big drinker so she chose to get out for a run whilst the storm was still at bay and left the Pogues to it.
Running had become a coping mechanism for Olivia, she would use to go out swimming all the time when her dad was around, but considering the fact that he is lost at sea, she's had mixed feelings about it ever since. Therefore, running made her feel grounded. Although, about two miles in, it starting pouring down and she was drenched within minutes. Truth be told, she didn't mind the sting of the rain against her bare arms. She felt alive. Unlike the numbness of the last few months, any type of feeling was an improvement. The rain certainly didn't seem to be stopping and it was either another two miles back or she could just keep going for the last eight I mean, if she turned around now her friends would still be getting drunk and high off their heads. If she stuck to it at least she wouldn't have to deal with the noise.
A few hours had passed and she was back outside the chateau. It seemed quiet enough, so she assumed her friends had long since gone home. The darkening sky suggested it was rather late anyway and god forbid Kie or Pope were late home in this weather. Hopefully, having avoided social interaction she ran inside from the rain. Her tank top and shorts clinging too her skin. She hadn't realised just how cold she was until she stepped inside and goosebumps immediately raised and suddenly a loud chattering sound filled her ears. Had her teeth been doing that this entire time?
In a wishful hope of a warm shower she rushed into the bathroom, only to discover JJ passed out in the tub. Well, he was passed out until Olivia had flicked the light on. "Where the fuck am I?" he groaned. "Hey, J mind getting out the tub I'm freezing and don't feel like showering with you lying there." She said back pulling her dripping hair out of their plaits. "Uhhhh okay, I'll go find somewhere to crash" he mumbles, stumbling out of the bath, barely awake. Unfortunately, either the water bill hadn't been paid or the storm had cut their supply as absolutely nothing came out the shower head, "Figures."
Shivering her way back to her room, she finds a blonde now outstretched on her bed fiddling with his bracelets. "I thought you were having a shower". "Well I would but there's no water so I guess I'm just going to have to get changed." Olivia says, trembling as she rummages through her drawers. "I'll turn around don't worry" JJ states noticing her anxiously waiting to change her clothes. "Thanks." She quickly strips and changes into joggers and a hoodie, but still struggles to stop her hands shaking as she climbs into her bed. "Liv, you're freezing" he states as her hand brushes past his arm in the dark, "come here." Before she knows it, his arms are wrapped around her as she nuzzles into his chest. This wasn't unusual for the pair, they'd been best friends for years, always finding comfort within each others arms, no questions asked. So, it wasn't long before they'd both fallen asleep. Neither aware of how the next day would change the rest of their lives.
