14: Winter "Wonderland"

Sabrina and Logan stood at the bus stop, shivering. They didn't think to wear a jacket or boots, even though there was a foot of snow outside and more on the way. Sabrina was wearing a cozy sweater, but Logan only had his plaid flannel.

"I really think I should listen to my grandmother more often." Sabrina said, her teeth chattering.

"I really think you should, too." Logan said as the bus pulled up to the stop. Him and Sabrina rushed to be the first ones on and they sat in the front near the heaters. When they arrived at school, Ryan looked very overdressed compared to them. He had a jacket, boots, and a tuque.

"Seriously, guys? How were you even allowed out in that? It's colder than a witch's tit out here!" he exclaimed. Sabrina giggled, and then she remembered that her younger sister was technically a witch, and then she got really uncomfortable.

Sabrina had forgotten to take her shot of the elixir that morning, so she was especially moody. After her visit with Melody, she was feeling exhausted. Like even breathing was too much work for her. She tried walking to class, but after nearly passing out three times, a nearby teacher forced her to go to the nurse's office. And since Dylan was the closest student around, the teacher made him take her there.

"Mrs. Jenkins does realize that if I do faint, you could barely carry me, right?" Sabrina said nonchalantly. Dylan rolled his eyes.

"Remind me again who carried you to the nurse's office and waited there for you," he said. Sabrina chuckled.

"Oh, uh, thanks again for that," she said. Dylan blushed.

"Eh, it was nothing. You're as light as a feather," he flexed his muscles, resulting in Sabrina giggling like a little girl. Dylan started laughing along with her. His dazzling smile caught her eye, and she relaxed her shoulders. Sabrina hadn't even realized that they were tense. When they arrived at the nurse's office, Nurse Kacey gave them a disappointed look.

"What now?" she asked in her thick Russian accent.

"Sabrina's been fainting again." Dylan explained. Nurse Kacey shook her head, then told Sabrina to go drink some water and head back to class. So, her and Dylan left.

"Hey, what were you up to this weekend? I tried calling but you didn't answer," he asked. Sabrina paused.

"Oh, uhm, I was in Manhattan visiting...a family friend. My phone died and I forgot a charger," she replied. "Why'd you call me?"

Dylan blushed. "O-oh, uhm, I was wondering if you'd like to hang out this evening," he stammered. Sabrina smiled.

"Sure, I'd love to," she said softly. Dylan smiled back, making her heart melt.

"Meet me at Hudson River at around 7pm."

The rest of the day, Sabrina felt very happy. Almost too much to contain. She could barely act angry while playing her role, which had started to irritate Mark.

"Sabrina, stop smiling. You're literally telling someone that her bulimia is outdated. That's not something to smile about," he said. Sabrina inhaled and exhaled.

"Sorry, Mark, I don't know what's gotten into me today," she said.

The next class was woodshop. Sabrina was almost falling asleep, but she forced herself to stay awake.

"And for this week's project, you need to build a functioning marionette," the woodshop teacher, Mr. Spruce, said. "And before you ask, yes, it has to be varnished, painted, and attached with strings. You may have help from a family member if you wish, but please keep your projects a secret from other classmates."

Sabrina smiled to herself and wondered if Pinocchio would actually be willing to help her. He was still aloof and a loner, but he didn't necessarily not like her.

Sabrina stood at her locker, fumbling with the lock. No matter how many times she put her combination in, it wouldn't budge.

"Need help?" someone behind her asked. Sabrina whipped around and saw Puck standing there.

"I'm good, thanks," she replied, taking a bobby pin from her hair and picking the lock. Her lock clicked open and she quickly retrieved her bag. Sabrina locked her locker again and started down the hall, Puck followed. They passed Dylan on their way down the stairs. Sabrina waved, smiling. Dylan sheepishly waved back, trying to ignore Puck's death glare.

When the kids got home, they all sat down on the couches and chairs. Relda walked into the living room with a tray. She handed them each a mug of hot chocolate and a bright white cookie with purple drizzle.

"It's my new recipe," she said just before Sabrina could question her about the treat. The blonde shrugged and took a bite of the mysterious cookie. The drizzle seeped into the dough, melting in her mouth. It tasted like whipped cream and blueberries, but twice as sweet.

"Mmm! It's so good!" Daphne exclaimed, her mouth full of cookie. Relda smiled and walked back into the kitchen. Everyone sat in silence and ate their cookies, occasionally sipping on their hot chocolate.

"So, Puck, how's your girlfriend?" Daphne said somewhat teasingly.

"She's doing good." Puck replied. "How's your girlfriend? Wait, I can just ask her myself," he turned to Red. "Hey, Wolfie, how ya doin?" Puck grinned. Red rolled her eyes and Daphne slapped Puck on the arm.

After dinner, Sabrina went upstairs to do her hair before she left. She tied her blonde locks into two low pigtails and slipped a denim blue tuque onto her head. She pulled on a pair of brown knee high boots and a black jacket. Sabrina smiled at herself in the mirror before rushing down the stairs. Henry stopped her from leaving.

"Where do you think you're going?" he raised an eyebrow. Sabrina furrowed her eyebrows, frowned, and pushed passed her father. She slammed the door shut behind her and instantly regretted it.

"Sorry, house, I'll be back soon," she whispered before rushing off to Hudson River. Sabrina sat down on a bench and looked out into the river with a thin layer of ice covering it. She checked her phone, which read 6:59pm.

He'll be here any minute now, she thought. Sabrina exhaled and smiled to herself. Every few minutes, she looked back to see if Dylan was approaching, but he never was. It's fine, he's probably just running late, she thought. Maybe he texted me.

Sabrina pulled her phone out from her pocket and checked her texts, but there were no new messages. She pressed Dylan's icon and quickly typed something in.

Hey, where are you? she sent the text, hoping he didn't find her too clingy. She waited ten more minutes, but still no response. He wasn't even active and hadn't read her message. Sabrina sighed and checked the time. 7:35pm. He'll be here, I know he will, she thought.

An hour had passed when she saw her family's car drive around the hill and into town. They were far away enough that she couldn't make out their faces in the windows, but she recognized the car. Sabrina sighed and came to terms with the fact that Dylan wasn't showing. So, she awkwardly stood up and stretched her legs. The blonde sighed and checked her messages again. He had read what she sent, but didn't reply.

A wave of rage rushed over her. How dare he ask her to hang out, stand her up, and then ghost her?! Who did he think he was?!

Sabrina held in a scream and angrily stuffed her phone into her tiny woman jean pocket. She trudged home and was about to unlock the door, but someone opened it for her.

"Grimm, there you are!" Puck exclaimed, relieved. "The others went to go last minute boot shopping. Where have you been?" he said. Sabrina took a few seconds to find her words.

"Dylan, he...he stood me up."
