Katie finished singing and was applauded tremendously by the rest of the theatre club, except for Sabrina, Logan, and Ryan. She rushed back to her seat, but before she sat down, she whispered something into Sabrina's ear.
"Beat that, skank."Sabrina gritted her teeth and ignored Katie's evil giggles. The two blondes had been rivals since freshman year, and Katie was always superior. She always got a bigger part than Sabrina and always rubbed it in her face. But not that year. Sabrina wouldn't allow it. Mark waited for the noise to die down and then turned to the group as the bell rang for lunch.
"Alright, guys, that's all for auditions. I'll be giving out roles on Friday. Have a decent day!" he beamed as the students left, showing off his snake bites. After Sabrina ate her lunch, she went directly to Ms. Dupont's classroom and sat down. The old, tooth pick thin woman looked at the teen through her half moon glasses.
"You're thirty seconds late, Miss Grimm," she scowled.
"And you're thirty seconds away from a kick in the chin. Just let the girl have a goddamn seat."
Sabrina looked to the person who made the comment and her jaw almost dropped. A pale teen with a shaved head wearing a snap back, red and black flannel, black ripped jeans, and red converse was sitting in the back row.
"Woah," Sabrina whispered. She walked over and say down next to them. "You look so badass," she said. They chuckled and Sabrina felt a little embarrassed.
"Thanks. Name's Skylar, they/them. Don't forget that, Brin," they held out their hand and Sabrina shook it.
"My name's Sabrina."
"Yeah, but I'm gonna call you Brin."
Ms. Dupont exited the room and Melody walked in.
"Ah, Skylar. What a surprise," she said sarcastically. Skylar pointed finger guns at her and winked before turning back to Sabrina.
"I heard what happened between you and my little sis," they said. A lump formed in Sabrina's throat and her heart skipped a beat. "And I wanna thank you. Someone had to put that fucker in her place, and I'm glad it was you." Skylar put their hand on Sabrina's shoulder.
"Language," Melody hissed. "You're lucky I'm letting you talk at all," she said. Skylar rolled their eyes.
"You should've seen the look on that brat's face when our driver opened the car door for her. She was so pissed, and I was so proud of whoever did that to her." Skylar and Sabrina kept talking throughout their detention. When the bell rang, Skylar stood.
"You've got balls, Brin. See ya 'round." And then they walked out. Sabrina picked up her bag and walked out towards her health class. When Sabrina got home, she saw that Daphne had brought a friend over. They were talking with Puck and giggling. Daphne's friend looked up at Sabrina.
"Hi, I'm Rosie," she said. Sabrina waved hello and grabbed Puck's arm, dragging him into the other room. He twisted free from her grasp.
"What do you want?" he hissed.
"What's up with you and Dylan? You act like you know each other, and it's weird." Sabrina said. Earlier that day, Dylan was talking to Sabrina at her locker when Puck strolled over. The two guys made eye contact, nodded, and then ignored the other.
"I don't know the twat, Grimm. And frankly, I don't want to." Puck replied. Sabrina furrowed her eyebrows.
"He's not a twat," she said sharply.
"He might not be, but you sure are."
Sabrina slapped him in the arm.
"Not usually a violent person, my ass." Puck muttered. Sabrina slapped him again.Friday came quicker than she had expected. Everyone wanted to arrive early, eager to get their roles for the play. Logan, Sabrina, and Ryan were the first ones there again. Mark sipped his Starbucks coffee and scrolled through his phone. After everyone showed up, Mark picked up a piece of paper and started reading off names.
"Cherry Holt as Veronica, Cindy Coté as Heather McNamara, Josey Pines as Heather Duke, and Sabrina Grimm as Heather Chandler."
The four girls rushed up to get their scripts as the others clapped. Sabrina couldn't believe it. She was one of the main characters, and Katie hadn't even been cast yet! It was one of the happiest days of her life!
"Jack Roberts as JD, Grace Austin as Martha," Mark continued reading names off, but Sabrina stopped listening. She was reading over her script, trying not to grin.
"And the rest of you will be background characters. Now, let's practice singing the fir-"
"Mark, I hate to interrupt, but you must've forgotten to name my character." Katie raised her hand. Mark blinked.
"No, I named her. When I said background characters, that included you," he replied. Katie started screaming and crying, claiming how she should've been cast and not Sabrina.
"She can't even act! I can act! I can do everything she can do, and more!" Katie cried.
Doubt that, Sabrina thought, looking down at her watch. Katie continued her hissy fit and her friends pretended not to know her. Eventually, Mark walked over.
"Katie, I'm going to have to ask you to step outside for a minute," he said calmly. Katie slapped him across the face.
"The only reason Sabrina got cast is because you two have been sleeping together!" she screamed. The theatre went silent.
"First of all, I'm gay," Mark replied calmly, ignoring Katie's fists punching his chest repeatedly. "And even if I wasn't, I still wouldn't be sleeping with students. It is extremely disrespectful of you to accuse me of such an act with no proof. Now, I will have to ask you to apologize to Miss Grimm," he finished his thought.
"Mark, I got the whole thing on video. Don't worry, she can't accuse you of anything," one boy, the principal's nephew, said.
"Why, thank you, Christoper." Mark replied. Then, Katie walked down to where Sabrina was sitting. She didn't speak, just glared daggers at the girl. There was mascara running down her face and smudging her foundation. Sabrina pointed to the front page of her script where the name Heather Chandler was high lighted and Sabrina Grimm was written underneath.
"Beat that, skank."
