Chapter 6

Felix was scared.

He was scared of the way he felt. He was utterly dependent on Alice.

And it seemed that she was about to be dependent on him.

There was a snowstorm coming. The news stated it was going to be one of the worst in the town's history—it had cut off power to half of the city.

Felix closed the store early. No one was going to go out in this anyways. He kept looking through the window, trying to see if Sea of Ink was still open. It was an hour before Alice normally would come over, but for once he was hoping she was already home. This morning, she had come in as usual, but the storm hadn't been as bad.

are you okay?

They rarely texted since they saw each other twice a day, every day, so Felix felt weird.

yeah.

well, kinda.

I normally walk to and from work, but I'm gonna assume I shouldn't walk home in this. also my apartment building is in the dark :/

Felix looked back out of the window. Mugz had a generator. It looked awful outside already and the news said it had only just begun. He looked toward the ceiling, as he could see his house, considering his options. Was it too bold to ask her over? It seemed like the right thing to do, even if he hadn't seen her in a romantic light, but he was worried maybe she would take it as too forward.

do you think you could make it over here instead? you could stay here until it goes away.

He almost held his breath as he watched her typing bubble pop up.

yeah. two of the artists didn't come in and the other one lives nearby and already left. was pretty worried about the ghosts in here :o

He smiled widely.

let me finish up some things and I'll be over :)

His smile faded with a thought. He ran up the stairs to his house. It was pretty messy. His sister was in her room. He hurriedly grabbed all of the clothes lying around and pushed all of the dishes into the sink. He rushed to his room. He shoved most of everything that had been on his floor into his closet. He flapped his blanket over his bed to look somewhat smooth. He let out a big sigh when it almost looked presentable.

coming now.

He went downstairs and to the window. He saw a flash of color come out of her door and rush across the street. He opened the door for her.

"Oh, my god, that is a nightmare," she muttered when she entered. She quickly took off her damp and cold coat as she heated up from the heat blasting through Mugz.

"Are you okay?" Felix worriedly asked, following her as she paced around trying to warm up.

"What? Oh, yeah, I'm fine. It's just crazy cold out there," she said, finally looking at him. She grinned. "Who would've thought that a snowstorm would be the cause of our first night together." She waggled her eyebrows.

His cheeks quickly lit up crimson. He knew she hadn't meant it how it sounded. He let out a nervous chuckle.

"You have a couch here somewhere, or something?" she asked, looking around towards the back that she had never been in. It'd been two months since they'd met.

"Uh," he still hadn't told her that he lived upstairs. He knew he was overthinking it, but he didn't want her to think that he was too poor to afford a home. He was, but he didn't want her to think that.
