Lucy had a restless night. She twisted and turned in her warm bed but the eyelids never closed. The unease and the gut feelings were making her queasy and the howling wind did nothing but increase the uneasiness. So, she woke up, took a candelabra and walked down the hallways.
Three single flames burning in the pitch black night but then , suddenly a flicker could be seen passing the corridors. The sudden movement confused Lucy but it was gone with a wink.
Paying no heed to her diverging mind, she went to the kitchen to drink water.
The corridors seemed gloomy as they too shivered with the wind. The mansion was unlikely alive. Lucy's small steps echoed as the wood creaked beneath her footsteps. Dressed in her night dress, she felt chills run down her spine. Suddenly, a gust of wind barged with a huge blow and toppled a vase, making it break into hundreds of million different disjoint pieces.
She hastily descended the stairs towards the location of concern and saw an empty space where once an exquisite Chinese artifact once stood. The window was wide open and the air was running inside the mansion. The wild gusts of wind howled as it entered the mansion , tearing down the walls.
Sighing, she decided to sweep the floor as sleep was far away tonight. As the seconds ticked, the wind roared and the wax burned, she found her uneasiness rise exponentially. The mathematical graph rising rapidly with the passage of time.
She hastily closed the window and pulled the curtains back. The broom's swish was in resonance with the torment outside. Her hands worked like magic as the light gleamed on the shiny marble surface. Single strips of moonlight entered the hallways. The candelabra , adding to the hue created.
Taking each broken piece with care, Lucy disposed them and broomed the surface again and again for the smaller ones. Then, she dusted the non existent dirt from the escritoire in a repeating cycle.
After a while of doing the chores , she finally decided to give her little daughter a visit and hence, started the long journey towards the designated room.
But, what she did not , could not kill her right? The danger waiting for the correct time. The cacophony of death lingered around everywhere as she ascended each step. The wooden steps creaking under pressure.
With each passing second, the pink door came closer and closer and finally, Lucy found herself outside it with a hopeful and content smile on her face. And then, she twisted the hand carved, flowery design, ivory doorknob.
