I woke up to the sun shining brightly through the blinds of my window. “Today’s the day!,” I said out loud to myself as I stretched and sat up. I was sure that I got a good 5 of hours of sleep due to my excitement. Today was the day my new life would begin. College. One word, two syllables, something a lot of people dream about and only half of those people finish. But, for me it’s everything. Everything I needed to support my lifestyle and make my parents proud. The hard part was leaving. My brother walked past my room, but when he saw that I had woke up, he backed up.
“Good Morning Diamond!” he said with excitement. “Morning buddy,” I said as a smiled to him. “You’re leaving today, right?” “Yes I am.” “Yess!” he said as he jumped for joy. Asshole, I thought to myself. “Go away loser, I need to get dressed.” And with that he skipped off. Our conversation was pretty loud so I assumed my mother and father we’re already woke. I got up went to the bathroom and then stood and looked at myself in the mirror. Look at me, all grown-up, so proud of myself, I thought as I smiled. I’ve been through so much. Going off to college, my life’s dream. “It’s time to make a change for the better,” I whispered to myself, half trying to assure myself that this process was going to be easy.
I spent the next hour getting dressed and checking off my list to make sure I had everything. I looked at my phone; 8:43; almost time to get out of here. I felt a small panic growing in me as the minutes ticked away. I sat on the edge of my bed and looked around at the room I would be parting with; my photos and posters still hanging on tough to all of the walls. I randomly started to look through my phone at pictures of family and friends that I knew I would miss more than anything. Then I stumbled upon my orientation picture from a few months ago, the people of my new future.
Then my eyes caught him again, that guy. I slowly looked up as I began to daydream about him. The guy with the brown eyes that I never forgot about..
