Goodbye And Hello Again

5 years later (22 years old)

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are landing soon. Please turn off your devices, fold up the tables and open the windows...." Yet another announcement ringed from the radio by the one of the flight attendants. I'm going home, home to Ao.

High school breezed past and so did college, although her passing did throw some challenges at me. It's been 17 years and I still haven't told mom that I was friends with Yujiro- no, Mirai. What a great secret keeper am I, right?

Skipping university went against mom's wish of me doing science, but I have no intention of pursuing that career. Besides, she said she'll support me either way so here I am now, on another flight to Kofu.

Looking out the window on the aisle seat, I witness a familiar view. The sky seems the same, just like the day I met her. I'm quite proud of myself for making it this far, she would've been too.

I wonder if she'll be happy to see me again, although I think it'll be a one sided conversation.

Time skip (at the train station)

"緑の頭~(Green head~)" I hear the familiar voice shout. It's Kyouka again, with that stupid nickname.

"How many times do I have to tell you? It's Mide!" I shout at her, earning a few dozen glares from the people walking pass us.

She chuckled at my aggravated response, but that doesn't make me mad; I've heard this way too many times.

I throw my small but heavy bag at her, it's funny watching her struggle to catch it. We make our way to her car after a bit of messing around and an angry whistle from the station guard. We may have broke a few hundred station rules, but that doesn't matter!

The car ride was surprisingly quiet, there were a few small conversations from time to time, but that was it. Kyouka did fill me in on a few details that happened in her studies while I was away, nothing too interesting happened. She's more accomplished than I'll ever be. Even after this long, Kyouka still can't see the others, maybe there's something special about it. Well, there's no point asking her about 'them' if she can't see them. Nevermind that, I'll ask 'them' when I see 'them'.

A few hours passed and we finally made it to the house. The familiar dusty smell of the house enters my nose as soon as I exit the car, am I that excited or is the house just that dusty?

"ミデ(Mide)!" I hear a rough voice croak out. I turn around to see none other than the infamous Ojichan, and look at that! He grew a little beard!

"おじちゃん(Grandpa)!" I reply as he hugs me in the most embarrassing manner as possible, making me transform into a feverish tomato.

"あなたがどれだけ成長したか見てください(Look how much you've grown)!" Ojichan croaks again, he uses the same sentence every year when I visit, but he changes it a bit. I wonder if he'll notice how many times he's said it already; I've counted at least 17 now.

"Heheh..." I chuckled awkwardly as I tried to push myself out of his 'lung crushing' embrace. For such an old person, he really commits to his hugs. "おばあちゃんはどこ(Where's grandma)?"

"ああ、彼女はいつものように中にいる(Oh, she's inside as usual)。" He smiles, pointing at the house.

"I'll get your stuff, hurry up and get your butt inside already." Kyouka scolds. She gives me the 'look', almost as if she was saying, 'I know you want to go, so hurry up or you'll have to take your stuff in by yourself'. Menacing much.

I eye her back with a hint of gratitude as I sped walked off while the unspoken offer still lasted. Making my way around the house, I look around to see if anyone was watching. I guess this is just an old habit after doing this for so long, although I'm pretty sure a certain 'someone' is always watching me. Afterall, she's the first one who found out that I played in the forest.
