Memories Of A Million Hours

12 years ago (5 years old)

Lost in the forest, I heard a soft giggle from a tree then a small thump overtook it. I ran over to where it came from to see a small girl around my age lying flat on her tummy, legs dangling in the air. I couldn't get a good look due to the lighting, but I could pick out her simple features.

"あの、大丈夫ですか?(Um, are you okay?)" I asked while hugging my hands to myself. She tries to get up and scoffs at me but I don't understand why she did it.

"You can see me?" She sarcastically asked me while her hands cupped together by her chest. Why though? She's right there. She stood up and brushed of the soil that sat on her white shirt as she walked of.

"おーおい!子っと待って!(H-hey! Wait up!)" I shout at her as she picks up her pace to a jog. I run after her reaching for her hand, but when I reach it... I slip right through.

I trip over myself, landing on my chin. Ouch.

"んん。。。 お前は変だ人ですよね?(nn... you're a weird person aren't you?)" She bent down and stared at me straight in the eye with the slightest bit of pity and curiosity. I forced myself up but the girl then hoisted me up by the arm.

"You can see me?" She said as I

"Y-yeah..."

".....Nice!"

She attempted to pull me up but strangely she passed right through me, unlike the her previous hoist. Oh. The forest light illuminated her face as I breathe at the sight of it. Her face was pale as a ghost, her white short, puffy hair swayed slightly in the air. An oversized shirt blocked away any perverted thoughts and so did her short pants.

White all over, that was all that I could see. Although a small patch of color did appear at the side of her head. A mask sat at the top of her head, a kitsune mask. Its eyes were black and its ears had a light pink tint with a small bell that hung on it, that made it look cute but it was taken away by the creepy looking face plastered on its face.

"What's your name?" I asked the girl as

"I'm Mirai Hoshiyuki, but you can call me whatever you like." She smiled at me with pink cheeks as she attempted to grab my hand yet again. "Man, I don't have control over this damn thing at all!"

She kept cussing to herself as she failed time and time again to grab my hand before she completely gave up and ran off, signalling me to follow.

In all honesty, my mind just blew up to pieces. She can 'phase through' things and she doesn't have any control over it at all. I simply followed behind her trying my best to catch up but as a 5 year old, my legs seemed like a chicken's against Usain Bolt.

She flowed like a river through the trees, twisting and turning at the edges with the agility of a snake. While she was at it, I adapted slightly but now I became a newbie at racing with a few brakes every now and then.

Mirai stopped and panted for a few seconds before she recovered to a mountain's height. "Tada! We're here!"

She sat down, exhausted from the small sprint we had. That was actually quite surprising seeing that she was happily running through the trees like she had no stamina limit at all, but when she stopped she just got drained of all her adrenaline.

I panted, my hands on my knees in a crouched position as my chicken legs recover from the marathon. I fail to keep my balance and I fall backwards, only to be met with a hard thump. Ouch. The ground was covered in pebbles, small and large, the sun glistening in the snaky river that was in front of me.
