Song for this chapter: Two Pieces Demi Lovato. I think that our two protagonists fit in the song quite well
Lucas blinked, and when he opened his eyes again, Ian was gone. Forever, maybe. Aurora was standing next to him, looking at him with sympathy. He felt an irrational anger toward her. Why did she have to take him away, disrupt the illusion of happiness that they had? Illusion, because they were still aware that war was coming, and that they could still die there. His angry thoughts were cut short by Aurora, who was glancing at what seemed to be a vast building some distance away. “That,” she said, pointing, “is my house.”
Lucas was slightly taken-aback. “Your house?” he echoed dully.
Aurora smiled. “Well, I own it. But it's similar to your Edward's Academy. Young warlocks live there and are trained by my four daughters. Special cases are taught by me.”
“Special cases?”
“Warlocks that have the ability to bend three or four elements. The ordinary warlock is born with the ability to bend one element, and are then taught to bend the element that goes with their own element. Do you understand this, boy?”
“Not really...”
“God, what did Ed teach you?” She didn't wait for him to answer. “Warlocks are split into four sections: fire warriors, air warriors, earth healers, and water researchers. There are two alliances between these four elements, water and air, and fire and earth. If a warlock is born a Healer, he can learn the art of fire warfare, and becomes a Fire Warrior as well, and vice versa. The sigil of the Water-Air alliance is a water butterfly, and that of the Earth-Fire alliance is a fire flower. These alliances are a representation of life; the gentle aspect, and the wild aspect. My four daughters each represent a separate element. Healer warlocks answer to Gaya, daughter of Earth. Fire Warriors answer to Sastra, daughter of Fire. Air warriors answer to Phoebie, daughter of Air. And Water Researchers answer to Trish, daughter of Water.”
Lucas was silent, slowly going over this sudden input of information as they walked towards Aurora's 'house'. Finally, he asked, “So how do the warriors fight?”
“Fire Warriors usually fight with fire-swords or fire-spears, but the most powerful ones can produce fire and bend it to their will. Air Warriors are born with wings, and usually fight with a bow-and-arrow, but again, the most powerful ones can bend the air around them at will.”
“That's incredible...So that means that I can become a Fire Warrior?”
“Yes.”
“Wow...Wait, don't Healer warlocks put people to sleep by singing to them?”
“That is correct. However, it is wrong to assume that that is their only job. In the field of medicine, you have the anaesthesia to sedate you, and you have the medicine to fix you up. The same goes for Healers. There are some that sing to put people to sleep, and there are some that produce living cells and speed up the regeneration process to heal people.”
“Oh, that's a relief. I suck at singing.”
They walked in silence, until Lucas piped up, “What do the Water Researchers do?”
“Water is everlasting. It is created in the everlasting Water Cycle. It is therefore a very powerful medium to look far ahead, or far behind. The Water Researchers research cures, warfare methods, and other important topics, from all ages of the world. It is how us warlocks have such advanced technology, and yet we still keep to certain traditional ways. They can also see the future, but not like your Ian. They see several possible futures. This happens due to the fact that water currents do not always flow in the same direction. If, say, a pebble is thrown into a running river, the water will bend around the pebble and continue its journey. But the flow, the direction of the water has changed. It is the same with the futures we see. But Ian's visions are the true future. His visions always predict the true future.”
