*Timeskip to after training, when they graduate*
Graduation. I'm top of my class. I'm sure the Military Police wants me there. But they aren't a priority. Commander Erwin of the Scouts just told everyone to leave if they weren't joining him. I stay. Armin and Eren stay with me. Sasha stays. Connie stays. Why? They were all top 10. What's their reason?
I look around for more. Krista came too. Reiner and Bertholdt. They're all outstanding. Very skilled.
I hear footsteps behind me. I turn around, and It's Jean. I'm fuming inside. He told me he wanted to join MP, and be safe within the walls. That's what I wanted for him, too. I walk past Jean and take his wrist.
"What are you doing here?" I say strictly.
"Joining the scouts?" He suggests.
"It's not safe for you here, Jean." I worry.
"Mikasa, I know what I'm doing. Why do you care so much about me?" he asks.
"Friends care. Please re-think your decision."
I walk away but I hear a soft whisper.
"It's because of you.."
I don't turn back. He's insane, trying to protect me. I'm top of the class! I know that won't guarantee me a longer life, but I'm here to protect the person who saved me back then. I walk up to Eren and Armin, and they look pretty serious. So do I. I'll have to owe Jean for joining "because of me". Life is complicated.
