"Hydrowhisker!"

Spinning around, Hydrowhisker found Owlwhisker standing at the entrance of the medicine cat den.

"Citruskit might have got a cold," Owlwhisker explained.

Hydrowhisker sat up with excitement. Maybe I'll finally get to do something! After sitting around in the camp feeling useless for three days. Are you sure you will do it well? A little voice at the back of her head questioned. Barkleg died of Barkthroat. I don't even know what happened! He shouldn't have died. Lettucepaw got sent home that day before getting a chance to explain anything. The herb was working when we left, wasn't it? She shook her head, trying to focus on the moment. "Some catnip might help. We've got a lot." Standing up, she turned around towards the storage.

"I can get it, if you are busy," Owlflight shifted slightly, stepping forward hesitantly.

Am I busy? Hydrowhisker thought sarcastically. Owlflight was just being polite, like always. But obviously he was able to tell Hydrowhisker had nothing to do. "Do you know what they look like?" She asked at last, then had a strong urge to facepalm herself. Of course he does. The whole ValleyClan does. "It's fine, I can get it," She sighed, heading inside to grab some catnip.

"Citruskit is only coughing a little bit, so we don't need too much," Owlflight added.

Hydrowhisker twitched her ears in annoyance. I was going to see her myself to decide how much she needs, actually. But she couldn't turn Owlflight down like that.

"I -- I mean, I think she only needs a few." Owlflight muttered.

"Alright." Hydrowhisker came back with several purple flowers. "Are you sure this is enough? I can go check on her."

"It's okay, I have the time. Afterall, she is my daughter."

Hydrowhisker nodded. "Are the other kits well?"

"Yeah," Owlflight responded, "Bloomkit is always so passionate about everything, and Citruskit usually would play along with her. In contrast, Coniferkit is much more quiet, though."

"Great to hear," Hydrowhisker told him, "and good luck."

As the brown warrior padded out of the cave, Hydrowhisker slid down behind the boulder at the back of the den. Maybe taking a nap would be more helpful than strolling around the camp or sorting through her herb storage for the sixth time.

She yawned. As an apprentice, Hollowstar, Brightleap or some other warriors would order her to clean the camp every once in a while; but now she was starting to understand what true boredom was.

Maybe I should learn how to hunt. At least I would be doing something then... but that's not really a medicine cat thing to do.

Or some battle moves. Who knows when I would need to protect herself from something? Maybe not from cats, but mountain lions or some enormous, aggressive animals. They usually stayed in the mountains south of ValleyClan's territory, however they do sometimes invade the cats' land.

That's probably enough thinking and time to get moving, she said to herself, but she couldn't help but wonder. What would it be like to learn like an apprentice again? Like a warrior apprentice? I still want to be a medicine cat, though there's not much going on sitting around all day.

She really hoped no cat would walk in right now and see her frowning and smiling at the same time, looking like an idiot--

"...Hydrowhisker?"

"Yes?" She jumped onto the boulder in a hurry. Recognizing the youngest of Mistriver's kits -- Coniferkit, she relaxed a little. He was around four moons old now, one more moon and he would be made apprentice. "How can I help you?" She tried to keep her voice calm.
