"There you go," Rippledrop dragged a whole bundle of blackberry along with their leaves out of the herb stock.

"Don't you think it's a bit too much?" Hydrowhisker sniffed through the herbs, the sweet and bitter smell filling her mouth. Rippledrop climbed up from the bottom of herb stock and stared at Hydrowhisker. "It's really kind of you, but isn't your Clan going to need some too?" She went on.

The older medicine cat blinked with a chuckle. "We'll be fine. I can go out and get more any moment. I'm going to check on Candy -- she's the kittypet, by the way." She once more buried her muzzle inside the herbs and picked out some nit-grass.

"May I come?" Hydrowhisker remembered nit-grass was for treating fever. The kittypet must be really sick.

Rippledrop shook off some sand from her fur and led the way out of the medicine cat den, which was located under a hill. "Sure."

Hydrowhisker followed at her heels. "Where does Candy live?" She guessed that there wasn't enough space in SeaClan's medicine cat den.

"In the elders den, there is some extra space there." Rippledrop's muffled voice came through the nit-grass.

"Do you have any mansa flower leaves? Those usually work better than nit-grass." Hydrowhisker suggested.

Rippledrop nodded, but seemed to be hesitating. "Yes, we do; but Deltastar told us not to use it yet, since mansa isn't too common around here and we shouldn't spend those on Candy."

"Oh," Hydrowhisker couldn't see the gray medicine cat's face. She didn't know if she should agree or disagree with the leader's decision. After all, a life is a life, even a kittypet's. "But... what if her sickness gets worse?" She asked testingly.

"I-" Rippledrop began, then cut herself off. She swung her tail side to side afterwards without revealing anything more about her opinion. "...Let's just hope she gets better."

Hydrowhisker tilted her head and decided to not ask more. Meanshilw, she noticed Deltastar slowly wandering into his den from the near empty clearing as the dim horizon shone with soft white light. The cats that went to the Gathering must all be trying to get some rest before going out to hunt or patrol again. Where's Swashgaze? She suddenly wondered. I haven't seen her since she went out to make dirt before Rippledrop gave me the blackberries...

"Lookout!"

Hydrowhisker halted and drew her attention back to the front, finding herself almost walking into a brown warrior with light grey spots. "Sorry, Baypuddle."

"That's alright, and good luck with whatever you are doing. Candy's a nice cat, I hope she gets better." Baypuddle mewed delightfully and padded away. Hydrowhisker felt like he almost laughed.

Rippledrop took a turn up front into the elders den, which was built and woven with various types of plants. Hydrowhisker could already sense an unfamiliar scent, which she assumed to be Candy's. It was a bit sweet, mixed with another strange smell that she couldn't describe, but she was still able to tell that the kittypet was having a serious fever.

It was dark inside the den. Rippledrop dropped the herbs and bent down to sniff a white cat with many different colored splotches. That must be Candy, who looked no older than a new warrior.

"Don't get too close to Candy. She's sick." Rippledrop whispered by Hydrowhisker's ear.

Hydrowhisker casted a thoughtful glance at her. Is this sickness contagious? She was about to ask, then Candy's voice cut her off.
