AN: - Since this particular story is very close to my heart and I have big, longterm plans for it, I sincerely hope you enjoy it. [P.S. It's been a LONG time since I posted on Wattpad, but here's to hoping my experience this time 'round will be more positive!]
One last thing: The boys are going to be coming in very soon and it will be worth it when they do; just trust me and exercise some patience, loveys 💖
(Y/N) had always considered herself to be a modern, intellectual individual, never quite believing in old familial superstitions. This was why, when gifted a family heirloom in the form of a ring, she didn't think for a second that her grandfather's fairytale-like story about the ring was true.
(Y/N)'s grandfather had narrated the supposed history of the ring beautifully, an air of tragic mystery surrounding the tale, but the younger had only paid enough attention to the story to get the basic gist of it. And, for the record, the basic gist of the story was this: the ring had residual soul magic in it because of someone sacrificing their soul (or was it someone else's?) over the ring in a quest to be reunited with their love. As such, the rest of the tale was about a (very clichéd) pair of star-crossed lovers whose sweet love story had turned bitter and tragic.
It was all terribly dramatic and sounded like the textbook definition of bullshit to (Y/N). Her best friend Esha, however, was a different story. As soon as she had heard about the ring's tragic 'history', Esha's hopeless romanticism had had her floored. Very soon, the plan for the night (pre-gaming before going to the club to celebrate (Y/N)'s 21st birthday) was forgotten.
"Tell me more! How did the lovers meet?" The girl in question enquired, wasting no time in pestering her best friend for details about her newly acquired family heirloom.
Now, (Y/N) wasn't planning on telling her annoying best friend any more about the stupid ring but it turned out that Esha was both aggravating and persistent enough to break her.
"I think grandpa said something about soul magic? Like, my grandpa's sister or whoever was so stupid in love with this guy that on the night of her 21st birthday, she wished with the ring in hand to- and here I quote because it's ridiculous, 'Please enjoin my soul with his and mark us as each others'. Mould us so that we become parts of the same whole.' It was the corniest thing I've ever heard, I swear!" (Y/N) showcased her disbelief and distaste over the tale quite openly but obviously all the negative flew right over Esha's lovesick little head.
(Y/N) couldn't help but let out an amused yet disapproving sigh.
"You know what? It's your 21st birthday today, right? You should totally do the wish thing with the ring for someone you love. It'll be so much fun!" Esha exclaimed, her drunk self dragging out some words and slurring others.
"What? Why? You are so stupid and drunk right now ... we're only supposed to be pre-gaming, you know? Plus, if you really so interested then just make the wish yourself." (Y/N) reiterated, shoving the ring in question at her friend's face.
"It won't work for me though; it's your family magic, you dumb bitch."
"Who'd you call a dumb bitch, dumb bitch?"
Both (Y/N)'s childish retort and complete disregard for precious family magic had Esha wanting to bicker back but she knew they were getting off topic.
"You don't think it's real? Fine! Even I don't think it's real, not really! But it's cute and magical and it's coincidentally your 21st birthday today so it sounds like a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. What's the harm in making a little wish? Don't be a buzzkill!" Esha's moderately logical argument had certainly impressed (Y/N); she wasn't really known for her coherence when she was as drunk as she was in that moment.
