What Did I Do?

The Ceremony

"Skylar, Lauren! Let's go!" My mother called. Lauren was sitting on her bed, trying to decide what new shape she wanted to buy. Yes, you heard me right, shape. My sister Lauren and I are Shape Shifters. Our whole family and town are. We live a pretty normal life just like you humans. Shape Shifters have this ceremony where every year all the 12 year olds are turned into Shape Shifters. That ceremony was about to begin. Lauren and I headed downstairs and sat at our table to eat. We feasted on passion fruit and some very rare meat that we were only allowed to have on special days such as today. We slipped on our bracelets that allowed us to change into wolves and sped off to the woods where the ceremony was being held.

When we arrived we were greeted warmly by my dad, the Alpha of the Shape Shifters and the elders. Our friends called for us to sit over by them so we made way to them and plopped down on the soft bed of moss. " Attention." Our dad cried at the small pack sitting below him. Everyone instantly quieted. "Welcome, before we announce the news I have two new Shape Shifters! But now for the bad news, our enemies have spotted us and have prepared to attack at dawn tomorrow." He said worried. "We will have to do the horrible thing, change into humans." Gasps arose from the crowd. Shocked faces identicle to ours were everywhere. To change into a human was a horrible thing. "Only two shall change. Their names are to be drawn out of the crystal ball at sunset tonight. Their family's will be taken care of. They will be sent to the group of hunters and persuade them to leave us alone. Every one within the ages of 13 and 45 will be eligible. Thank you for coming you may leave." He concluded with a slight reassuring smile. "My girls!" He cried hugging us. After a moment with him we left to prepare."I sure hope it isn't me." I thought.

They sun was setting when the Alpha sat upon the rock as a Bear. The drawing was about to start. I could feel Lauren tensing up next to me. Several Shape Shifters were sitting with one another to comfort each other. I had so many butterflies and I was sweating so much that I was soaking the ground. The Alpha put his paw in the ball and swirled it around. " These are our tributes." He called as he unfolded the papers. His eyes watered up as he read out the names of the tributes.
