Camila shivered, tugging her sleeves over her hands and held them tight to her chest. Why did tonight out of all nights have to be this cold?

"Camila."

"Lauren!" She ran up to her mate, embracing her in a tight hug. Lauren sighed, pulling Camila even closer, not wanting to let go.

Camila buried her face in Lauren's neck, mumbling softly. "I miss you."

"I know, I'm sorry." That alpha pulled back to take a look of Camila's face, cupping her jaw gently.

"Please explain to me what's going on."

"Camila I-"

"You have blood all over your shirt!" Camila exclaimed when she ripped Lauren's coat open. "What happened?!"

A thud echoed in the alleyway and both werewolves looked to see if anyone was watching them.

"I told you to come alone! Who did you bring?" Lauren turned to her mate with an angry expression and Camila shook her head, saying she didn't tell or bring anyone.

In a flash, Lauren was pinned against the wall by Ariana and the vampire hissed in her face. "Where have you been hiding?!"

The alpha growled, kicking the vampire in the stomach and Ariana tumbled backwards at the impact. Lauren quickly grabbed her by her shoulders, pinning her to wall. "You have some audacity, vampire. How does it feel to be weaker?" Lauren tightened her hold around Ariana's neck

Camila reacted quickly, pushing Lauren off Ariana.

"Lauren, what the hell?" Camila blocked her from getting to Ariana.

Lauren blinked rapidly and her heart ached at the way Camila was looking at her. "Read your moms letter, you'll understand."

Camila watched Lauren run off with many questions swirling through her mind. Ariana was still in shock from the strength Lauren possessed. She'd never seen I werewolf with that much strength. They were almost equal now, Lauren might be a little stronger.

"What is wrong with you!?" Camila exclaimed.

"What's wrong with me? You're the one meeting up with someone that is a possible threat to our school!"

"You know nothing! I'm so tired of you being everywhere. Anywhere I go, anyone I'm with, you decide to show up! You need to get it into your head now that I chose Lauren and I'll always choose her. I'll never be with you, so back off!" Anger had taken over Camila that she didn't realise how harsh she sounded. She did a double take and tried to immediately apologise to Ariana but they vampire pushed her away.

"I understand that you made your choice but did you ever think to stop and ask me how I was feeling? I was bonded to you just a few days ago and you expect me to act like nothing ever happened! It might not have meant something to you but it really meant something to me. I don't want your pity right now and just wanted my best friend to ask me if I'm doing okay." Ariana heart thudded in her chest and her throat felt tight. It was too much, feeling like this was too much. She don't wanna keep feeling like this. Then something inside her switched.

"Ari, I'm sorry. I didn't realise how much this would affect you." Camila grabbed ahold of the vampire's hand and Ariana face became stoic.

"Now that I think about it, I'm actually glad we didn't end up together. You come with a lot of baggage anyway." The vampire ripped her hand from Camila's and began walking away.

"Oh and I'm telling your dad about your secret meetings with Lauren. I wonder what your punishment might be."

Camila stared into Ariana's eyes and she saw nothing. That glint that the vampire always had  in her eyes was gone.

Everyone was asleep when Camila got back to school and she took the opportunity to tip toe up to her room. Lauren's words replayed in her head about reading the letter and she rummaged through her draw for the envelope her dad gave her on prom night.

She held it in her hand, tracing the letter on the front, knowing her mom had written it.

She carefully opened it, breathing in deeply as she unfolded the paper.

Dear my little wolf

If you're reading this, it's probably your 18th birthday or you've been requested to read this.

I'm sorry I haven't been there for you and I missed so much which is something that haunts me everyday that I'm away from you. I want you to know that I never left you willingly or by choice. You might hate me or even resent me but know that while I'm away, I'm building a world that's better for you. Better for all of us. It's the reason your father took you away from me, he didn't understand and he never will.

We'll be together soon my little wolf. I never forgot about you and I'll never leave you when we meet again.

Camila clutched the paper to her chest and tears fell down her cheeks. Her mom never abandoned her, her mom still wanted to be with her.

Her bedroom door was was flung open and it flew of its hinges in the process.

"Aunt Ava?" Camila furrowed her brows when the vampire appeared at the door way. Two other figures also popped up behind her.

"Aunt Steph and Amelia?"

They all had serious expressions on their faces which scared Camila. They were always lively and happy when they came to visit her.

"Come with us." Ava commanded, her voice wasn't soft like how she normally spoke to Camila.

The werewolf didn't like what she was feeling and she slowly backed away, trying to get to her window behind her.

"Not gonna happen little one." Amelia used her vampire speed and appeared behind her. "What's going on?" Camila asked staring at her family members.

"Tell us where your mate is."

"I-no! What do you want?"

The three vampires looked at each other, nodding their heads silently. Amelia grabbed ahold of her and she tried to break free but she wasn't strong enough.

"This is for your own good." Stephanie told her and Camila was carried out her room to the cells down stairs. She spotted her father with Ariana besides him, watching her from down the hallway. He had a sad expression on his face as Camila called out for him.
