"I know, I'm on my way. I'm running as fast as I can."
Yaya grunts as she continues to pull her skirt down as she sprinted through the sidewalk. She angles her body as she squeezes through the crowd of people walking towards her. She was probably displaying the greatest skill of running in five-inch heels.
Her car broke down at the end of the curb, and she had only a few minutes left to get to work. And today was definitely not a day to be late.
She stops for a moment to catch her breath. She cranes her neck to see the pedestrian lane. It was still quite far, but the building she had to get to was directly in front of her on the other end of the road.
Basically, all she needed to do was cross the road.
She rests her hands on either side of her hips as she assesses the situation. She had barely ten minutes to spare, and the main entrance of the supreme court was literally in front of.
I'm probably not going die if I cross, right? I mean, it takes ten seconds to run to the other side.
Already making a final decision, she walks closer to the end of the sidewalk. She cranes her neck from right to left and then vice versa. There was a perfect window for her to run to the other end safely.
She bites her lip and clutches her bag tightly close to her side. With one dash, she makes her run to the other side. A silent squeal escapes from her lips as she eyes the other building she was heading towards.
She was so near, almost there.
But just before she could get to the safety of the sidewalk, a car was suddenly zooming towards her. If she had been a tad slow for a half a second, she would definitely have been hit.
She glares at the car as it momentarily stops. Her chest heaves up and down from both shock and anger. She wails her hands up in the air and scowls at the driver who popped his head out from the car.
"You're not supposed to cross here, crazy lady!" He yells at her.
Half of his face is covered with his sunglasses, but Yaya was pretty sure he's scowling at her right now.
"Well, you're not supposed to be over speeding as well, you jerk!" She spat at him.
They engage in a staring game for a few seconds before they both release an angered grunt in unison. They definitely did not have time for this.
"Jerk!"
She yells at him one last time before she turns on my heel and stomps towards the building.
"Crazy lady!"
She rolls her eyes as she hears his parting call. She huffs a breath as she runs to the entrance of the supreme court. The man in the car only lets out a frustrated breath as he hurriedly gets back inside his car. He shakes his head as he began driving again.
"I hope he gets a speeding ticket."
Yaya grumbles as she straightens out the creases on her skirt. She forces out a polite smile to the guard who opens the door for her. Reaching the lobby, she takes a quick stop. She composes herself, calming her nerves down.
Today was an important day, and she needed to be the best version of herself.
But most importantly, her clients needed her.
The sound of her heel clicking on the hard tiled floor resonated in the quiet building. She lets out one last sigh as she smiles at the people waiting for her by the door.
There was so much fear and worry in their eyes. But along with it, there was also hope in it. And she knew, for some part of it, she was a reason for that hope. And today she will try her best to put that hope into the best position.
