I opened my locker and took out my books for class.
"Hey Christie," Marisa said.
"Hi," I said smiling brightly.
"I have to tell you something," She said.
I smiled widely, "Isn't today just great?"
She gave me an uneasy grin and the smile slid off my face.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Derek is in the hospital," Marisa blurted.
"What?"
"He was with his friends on his way to school and Joe- the one driving, slammed the car into a tree," Marisa explained.
I leaned my head on the locker and felt the tears starting to fall.
"Christie, your hands are shaking," Marisa said, sounding scared.
I breathed deeply and cleared my throat, "I'm fine,"
"You sure?" She asked, sounding uncertain.
"Yea," I took another deep breath, "What hospital is he in?"
"St. Murtrins," She said.
I opened my locker and put my books in it.
"Give me your keys,"
"Where are you going?" She asked.
I gave a frustrated sigh, "Where do you think I'm going?"
She shook her head at me.
"What?" I snapped.
"He's fine, broke an arm or two but he's not dead," Marisa said.
"Marisa! What's wrong with you? He's your brother," I said, my voice raising dramatically.
She shrugged, 'I'm worried about him, but I know he's going to be ok,"
"Well what did you expect me to think? A broken arm or two, yea that's very reasuring," I said
"Sorry," Marisa said.
She dug around in her pocket and took out her keys.
"Don't wreck my car," She said.
"I won't, want me to pass on a message?" I asked her, calming down slightly.
"Nope, not really,"
I laughed, "Sister of the year,"
She shrugged, "Don't stay too long, don't want you missing too much food because of my idiot brother,"
I laughed, "Whatever you crazy girl, bye!"
"Bye!"
I reached the room Derek was in and knocked before entering.
"Who is it?" A sleepy Derek called out.
"Christie,"
I walked to his hospital bed and dragged a chair from the corner of the room and placed it by his bed.
He looked up at me and smiled, "How are you?"
I laughed, "Me? How are you? Your the one that was in a car accident,"
Derek shrugged and straightened up a bit, "I'm fine really, I don't really know how the other guys are doing though," He said, his forehead creasing dramatically.
