The spirit of Christmas

There's nothing better than to smell the cinnamon and cookies baking in the kitchen during the holiday season. Or the decorated houses with all of there lights strung up, making the house look like a Christmas bomb went off. Also, the excited children who can't wait till Santa makes his rounds. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

That's not the case here in district 12. The rebellion is over and we are here to grieve about what we lost, and cherish what we now have. There are no holiday scents or decorated houses. And there especially isn't screaming kids: only those who get woken up by nightmares. Let's just say it isn't very jolly in this part of the district.

It's a lot different from the Capitol, where I grew up, but may I say it's a thousand times better! No more of the traditions. No more of the Capitol.

Katniss and Peeta roam the area with their two small children, Kirstin and Rye. Kirstin is a tiny, skilled little girl with a personality as big as the universe. Rye is a talented, cookie loving boy who is always fascinated with his father. I love them so much! And I love seeing Katniss and Peeta take the roles of responsible adults.

Haymitch is here too, although I haven't seen him in ages. All he does is sit in his house doing God knows what! I swear he is the laziest person ever. I still care for him though. He's been with me since the beginning, and I can't imagine it any other way.

Christmas is almost here, and I can't wait to celebrate with the Mellark's! And I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be happy to see Haymitch at the Christmas party in the district. It's the only time of the year where all the citizens dress up and be fancy while celebrating the big day. It started when the war was won and people could afford fancy attire. I personally don't really like it. Don't get me wrong I love seeing everybody happy for once, but getting dressed up just reminds me of the Capitol. I bet I'm not the only one that thinks that.

I just hope that people see what the true meaning of the season is, without thinking too much of how they look. I've made that mistake one too many times...
