"Ready for your first night away from your dad?" I ask as I puff my way up the stairs. She demanded a piggy back ride, and it's the least I could do.

She nods, he face rubbing against my back as she does. Every damn time she touches me, my stomach erupts with this feeling of longing. But I could never be with her, it's the Last thing she needs.

I plop her down (gently) onto the guest room bed. She stares at me.

"Are we ever going to finish the project?" she asks, her doe eyes piercing my dull brown ones. Her auburn hair is swept back into a ponytail, a few strands escape, but are quickly tucked back into her hair by her long un- manicured nails. my eyes trace her body. A baggy navy blue sweater, with holes boldly shown, drapes her tiny torso. Ratty skinny
jeans decorate her legs. I need to help her, I need he-

"Shawn?" my cheeks flood crimson red. Shit. I'm not knows as the "sensitive" type, and I've just been caught admiring this girl.

"I- um, we'll get it done tomorrow, goodnight" I prepare to shut the door.

"Wait" she alerts me, "don't turn the light off" Her voice shakes as she says this.

The light stays on.

Amara P.O.V.

"Well well well. You honestly thought you were going to get away from me? ha! You really are dumb." he pushes a ref liquid at my shaking hands. "drink it" my head throbs at his demanding tone. "DRINK IT OR I SHOOT." My eyes follow the path of the pistol. Shawns head is tipped forward unconsciously.

I smother my screams with my lips.

It's the only thing I can do.

My fingers wrap around the dingy glass, gripping it with all I have left, and I drink.

I wake from my dream/nightmare panting. the accident still haunts my brain, I wonder how long my homicidal dad will. Nonetheless, I have school today, and sadly, it's all I have left that is actually in my control.

I shrug a lumpy, unflattering sweater over my bra, and add some saggy jeans to tie the outfit together. I wonder why the Mendes' are okay with a hobo living in their guest bedroom.

I pull my tattered backpack onto my shoulders, and step out of the room, only to be attacked into a hug.

"What the hell- shawn?" I gasp, surprised at the 6'2 teenage boy gripping me in his arms. He pulls away, a cheeky grin plastered across his face.

"I have a surprise for you." he informs me, not losing an inch of his smile. I give him a questioning glance.

By the time I open my mouth to ask anything, he's already dragging me out to his jeep.

"AMARA DONT YOU DARE OPEN YOUR EYES" Shawn threatens while leading me to an unknown location. "Shit. wait here, I forgot something." I knew it, he's going to murder me and I'm the idiot who fell for it. I'm never going to go to college, hell, I'm never going to make it back to highschool. I'm never- my rambling was cut short by a hand on my shoulder. "haha, sorry for that, I just forgot my wallet." wallet?

"Ready?" I nod cautiously "OPEN YOUR EYES" my eyes spring open and take in the sight before me. it's the birchwood mall. What the hell are we doing at the mall?

"And this" shawn says, thrusting his credit card at me, "is yours for today" my jaw couldn't be wider.

"Shawn, stop, I'm not taking your credit card"

"Yes you are"

"No I'm not"

"Yes you are"

"NO IM NOT"

"DO I HAVE TO SHOVE THIS THING UP YOUR ASS, JUST TAKE THE DAMN THING"

I'm taken back by his sudden outburst, but swipe the card from his awaiting hand, satisfying the little shit.

"And now we shop"

Oh no

"Blue or red" Shawn asks, thrusting the options of vans at me. This boy could be gay, he has the fashion sense of one at least. When I don't reply, he throws both of the pairs into his basket, taking silence as "both please."

We have been going back and forth like this for the whole day, and when I wouldn't answer, he would throw the whole store onto the checkout. He picked out 99.99% of the clothes he bought me today, and refused to show me the price. The last 0.01% of our purchases were picked out by yours truly. A pair of white nike socks, so he would shut his mouth, which he did.

"So Amara," Shawn announced, pulling me out of my thoughts. "There is the winter formal coming up, you know that, right?" I nod. "You're coming with me, and we are picking out your dress right now." I hadn't realized where we were until I looked around. I was now surrounded by dozens do frilly dresses. pink. so much pink. I'm going to slit my throat there is so much pink.

"I'm not wearing pink." I broadcasted to the little Canadian boy, who was just about to approach me with two hot pink messes. "get me a black one and I'll agree to go to the dance with you." His jaw dropped. He looked at me, and then the store, then me.

Shawn sighed. "I shall be don't m'lady"

-

"Shawn for the last time, enough with the damn pink" he chucked the mini dress at my face and huffed off. "they would have a black dress at hot topic.."

"WE ARE NOT GOING THERE IT SCARES ME"

"AND THIS DOESNT?" I shudder as I glance at the racks of dresses staring at me.

"Fine. You have 5 minutes in hot topic and then we are leaving." I flapped my arms like wings and made chicken noises. He almost decapitated me.

"Deal" I shake his overly large hand and waltz over to hot topic

Within a matter of seconds I had found the dress. A strapless number with lace and various other materials making the skirt, and a matte top. Best of all, it was black.

With a swipe of Shawns card, I dragged the shaking chihuahua boy out of the shop, and into his jeep, along with the dozens of shopping bags.

I'm honestly so proud of this chapter
