*Niall’s P.O.V.*
I wasn’t expecting to see her here. Heck, I wasn’t expecting to see her in London! At first I thought I was still dreaming. But when I turned my head and saw that familiar face I couldn’t deny this was her… in person.
I was so shocked I spilt some coffee on my pants but I hadn’t noticed at first. The hot substance now soaked through my pants and burned my skin slightly. “Ahh!” I screamed, standing up quickly. She ran towards a little cart and hurried over to me with some napkins. I snatched the napkins out of her hands and rubbed them on my pants, trying to soak up the brown liquid.
When my mind came back to reality I looked up at her and made eye contact. “Alexis…” I whispered. She stared at me and then down to my pants then busted out laughing. Her familiar high pitched laugh making me laugh as well. But then I realized what she had been laughing at, she was laughing at the big stain on my trousers that looked like a peed myself! I looked away, my face getting hot from embarrassment.
I looked at the still laughing Alexis. She had changed, matured more. Her old black glasses were replaced with contacts. Her light brown hair was now dyed dark brown, making her blue eyes pop. And her fashion sense seemed to have changed. She wasn’t that little girl that used to wear stained overalls and roll around in the dirt, I could tell that from just looking at her.
When I got over my embarrassment I asked her “what are you doing here?” I couldn’t think of anything else to say, she was supposed to be in Ireland. She stopped laughing and her face filled with hatred, “What are you doing here? That’s all you have to say? Seriously!” she said, rolling her eyes.
I just stared at her, it was crazy how fast her emotions changed, at least that’s still the same. She sighed and said “if you must know, I’m going to college here in London”
I nodded my head; an awkward silence filled the air. “Um…I should probably get my coffee…” Alexis said pointing to the order counter. She walked away and ordered her coffee. I sat down and sipped what was left of my coffee. I decided it was sort of rude of me to have started the conversation the way I did, I needed to make things right.
When Alexis got her coffee she walked towards the door, getting ready to exit the coffee shop. I had to do something, “Uh-ALEXIS!” I yelled. She turned around and looked at me, her eyes wide. “Um-do you maybe want to…um…have coffee with me?” I asked her. She looked at me, I could tell she was debating on whether it was a good idea or not.
Finally she said sure and walked over to the table and sat across from me. We sipped our coffee in silence. ‘You need to say something!’ my mind kept telling me. I just couldn’t think of anything…
AHA! I found something to ask her! “How’s Mullingar?”
She took one more sip of her coffee and then looked at me, “it’s good. Boring, but it’s always been boring, you know that.” She laughed, I relaxed a little bit.
It was her turn to ask me something now, “how’s the famous life?” she asked. “Amazing! And Crazy!” I laughed, I could feel her relaxing also.
“You guys were amazing on X-Factor” she smiled at me. My eyes widened, “you watched me…uh-I mean us?” She nodded her head and said “of course!”
After about an hour of talking to each other, it was finally starting to get light outside. Within that hour of talking I found out she was going to the University of London and was studying to become a Wildlife Biologist, she still had a love for animals. I also found out she was living with her sister and Emma, but did not find out where exactly.
I didn’t even bother to mention what had happened between us three years ago. I didn’t want to ruin the nice moment we were having catching up with each other and talking about memories.
“Remember when you snuck into my house that one night just because you didn’t have any good food in your house to eat?” she asked me laughing. I couldn’t help but laugh, the memories of that night flooded into my brain. “Your mom nearly killed me with that baseball bat!” I said smiling.
She looked out the window and sighed, “I have to go.” I frowned “already?”
She nodded her head, “I have reports I have to do for my classes that are due tomorrow. I have to get home and finish them. ” She stood up from her chair, I also did. I gave her a slight hug, inhaling her Victoria Secret perfume.
And just like that, I seemed to have fallen for her all over again.
She backed up and said “uh-it was good catching up!” I smiled from ear to ear. She grabbed her bag, said goodbye, and then left the coffee shop. I watched her from the window as she walked down the now busy London streets.
I sat back down and sighed. A million questions flooded into my head. But the main one was: will I ever see her again? I hadn’t even given her my phone number! Nor did I found out where she was living. London is a big city, there was no guarantee I would see her.
But I would make sure I did.
