Chapter 19: Back to School

My alarm rang at 6am.

"Uggh!"I groan. I can't believe the break is over and we're actually going back to school. I switch off the alarm and make my way to the bathroom. In about thirty minutes,I was done and I went downstairs for breakfast. My mom was downstairs already and she was dressed for work

"Good morning Mom"

"Good morning sweetie. Ready for school?"

"No",I say plainly.

"Everything's going to be fine"

"Yeah"

I fix myself a bowl of corn flakes. Mom dropped me off at school.

Here we go again!

"Hey Ally". Jennifer met me at my locker

"Hey Jenny"

"What's up?"

"English literature"

She laughed,"I know right"

"Yeah,now let's hurry before we're late."

"Yup"

"Good morning class"

"Good morning Mr Martin"

"Welcome back to school. I hope you haven't forgotten what you learnt last semester. Even if you have,I don't care since you'll be writing the exams either way. Anyway,this semester, we'll be focusing on William Shakespeare. We will begin with Romeo and Juliet."

To my liking,the lesson went by pretty soon. Next was chemistry. Mr Parker also welcomed us back and told us what we'll be doing this semester. Luckily,he didn't mention any projects but I'm sure we'll have them along the way, because face it,this is chemistry we're talking about. During the lesson,I noticed something was missing and then it hit me. Ryan,he wasn't in school. But why wouldn't he be in school on the first day. I spoke to him earlier but he didn't tell me he wouldn't be coming to school. I made a mental note to call him after the class.

Lunch came by and Jenny and I sat at our table from last year. While we were eating,she spoke up

"Ally,I haven't seen Ryan around. Have you?"

Oh shoot! I forgot to call him. "No,I haven't. I'll call him "

"Okay". I could see her eyes were on something behind me so I turned to see Spencer staring at her. She realized she had been caught and quickly looked down. And get this,she was blushing.

"Okay Missy, what's going on?"

"What?"

"Don't act all innocent. What's going on between you and Spencer?"

"Nothing"

"Oh really. From the way you were staring at each other, there's definitely something going on."

"There is nothing going on between us."

Before I could pry into it, Queen bee showed up. Just great!

"What do we have here? If it isn't...."

I didn't let her complete,"Go away Dionne"

"But I just got here"

I gave her my I'm-seriously-not-in-the-mood-for-your-shenanigans look.

"Fine,I'll go. But I just came to wish you a happy new year and to welcome you back to school,then she batted her lashes all innocent-like".

"Oh please"

"Bye",she sang and then turned and left.

Wow,that was a shocker. I expected her to do something before she left. Not that,I'm not glad she didn't ruin my dress or my lunch but knowing Dionne,it was unlikely for her to just leave. She's definitely up to something.

Soon enough, lunch was over and we continued with the rest of our classes.

I was at my locker putting my books in when my phone rang. It was Ryan. I facepalmed myself for not calling him before I picked up.

"Hey",he said.

"Hi Ryan, how're you? You didn't come to school today"

"Yeah,I was feeling a little sick today"

"Aw, sorry for not checking up on you"

"It's okay"

"I hope you're fine now"

"Yeah,I feel even better now after speaking to you". That put a smile on my face.

"That's great,I'll talk to you when I get home."

"Okay bye. Love you"

Was that a slip? What was I supposed to say. I didn't get a chance to think because he hang up after that. The last two words probably just slipped out of his mouth. I'll just forget about it

"You ready?" Jenny was dropping me home.

"Yup"

"Then let's go. My mom is not at home so I was thinking maybe I'll hang out at your place for a few hours."

"Cool"

"Mmhmm"

"Oh,I spoke to Ryan. He said he wasn't feeling well."

"Oh okay. I hope he's fine now"

"Yes, he's fine'

"Okay"
