Kiara POV

"What happened?" Some kind of doctor stood before me asking the question, yet everything seemed to be a blur.

"Miss?" The doctor asked, but I simply couldn't find words. I was in a complete state of shock.

"Hey, Kiara you ok?" Pope came over, slightly out of breath. He furrowed his eyebrows in concern and simply examined me for a second, before pulling me into a tight embrace. Tears began to roll down my cheeks as Pope held onto me.

"Um, sir, if you don't mind me asking I need to know how your friend got into his state?" The doctor turned to Pope. He paused for a second; JJ wouldn't want them to know about his dad.

"Surfing accident near some rocks," he replied quickly, as the doctor eyed him suspiciously.

"Ok then, well we're taking him up for a scan now to check he has no internal injuries, and then if not, we'll just patch him up and monitor him overnight and you should be good to go in the morning," he explained.

"Ok thank you," Pope replied as the doctor walked away. I felt Pope sigh as I continued sobbing. I tried to stop myself, but I just couldn't. Life was so unfair; how should anyone ever have to go through this?

"Hey look Kie, let's go sit down," he whispered after a few minutes, pulling out of the embrace. Suddenly, he leaned down and slowly kissed my cheek, rubbing the tears away gently with his thumb. It was a comforting action, yet it also felt kind of strange.

"Oooh, look at Pope making his moves!" A familiar voice called down the hall, as JJ came down in a wheelchair. I plastered on a reassuring smile, quickly wiping away my tears. Why was he in a wheelchair? And why was his arm, shoulder and foot in a cast?

"Man check out this cool ride, never thought I'd be in one of these bad boys!" He laughed, motioning to the wheelchair. For a second he paused, examining us both.

"Hey, chin up guys, I'm fine!" He exclaimed, and Pope looked at the doctors as if to ask what on earth they gave him.

"Dosed him up with some anti-pain meds. Looks like there's no internal bleeds thankfully, but we will need to monitor him overnight. His left ankle is broken and his right is fractured meaning it would be very difficult if he tried to walk, hence the wheelchair, and his right shoulder and wrist are fractured, but the rest is just bruises and cuts which should heal up over the next week," the doctor finished.

"See guys, perfectly fine! Yo dude do I really need to stay here overnight? Like is that shit really necessary?" JJ questioned as they begun to wheel him towards a nearby room.

"Yep tough guy, you do need to be monitored overnight, so don't try anything," the doctor almost snapped back at him, and I bit my tongue to hold back from saying something I would regret later.

"Alright, alright dude chill, I was just asking," he threw arms up in defence and proceeded to wince in agony, presumably due to his newly fractured wrist. I smiled; at least he was back to his normal stupid, sarcastic self.

"You kids can come back in the morning if you want or..." the doctor started, but I cut him off.

"We'll be staying."

JJ flashed me a smile and I returned it, as me and Pope made our way in and pulled out some chairs.

"We'll have someone come and check on you every so often, do you have anyone we can call. Like a parent or guardian?" JJ's face fell at this question, and he gulped nervously.
