Chapter 10

A week passed and Matt was still sick. I couldn't go inside the room because the doctor had blocked off.  so I texted him off of my phone. The next day while I was Ms. Hanson, I thought about Matt.

"Laurel", Ms. Hanson said. 

"Yes ma'am?", I looked up from writing. 

"Is Eric still sick?", she asked.

"I'm right here", a boy named Eric Mann said. 

"I'm talking about Eric Roberts", the professor snapped. 

"Oh", Eric said. 

"He's still sick", Drew Thompson said. 

"He's missing a lot", Tonya Watts said.

"He'll be fine", Eric's sister said.

"I'm fine", a weak voice said.

"It's Matt!", Jack exclaimed.

"Don't breathe on me!", Tonya squealed. 

"Go sit over there!", Drew hissed.

"The doctor said I'm fine", Matt said. 

"Whatever", Drew rolled his eyes.

"Be nice", a girl next to Drew said.

"Who's that?", I asked. 

"That's Ellie", Sophie replied.

"Who's Eric's sister?", I asked.

"It's Linda. Now be quiet", Cassie said. 

After class,   I went into my room and studied.  The next day I had five exams back to back. I had passed all of them. I wanted to tell Matt but he was still slightly sick. Two weeks passed and I was in my room when he texted me. 

"I love you", he said. 

I was stunned. Before I could reply, I heard a knock on the door. 

"It's Matt", the voice said. 

"Come in", I replied.

Last time I had seen him, he was hunched over and sick looking. Now he was standing tall and proud. 

"You're not sick anymore?", I asked. 

"Nope", he replied. 

"Hi Matt", Sophie walked in.  "I just need to get something out of my bag."

She ran in, grabbed her bag, took out her wallet, and raced out of the door.  I looked over at Matt and shrugged my shoulders. I leaned in and went to kiss him. He grabbed me and kissed my lips slowly.  My eyes widened and I fell into his embrace.

"Wow", Sophie gasped.   "I thought that you didn't like him."

"I do now", I said.
