My alarm buzzed for several minutes before I turned it off. Nina was sound asleep and didn't notice. I took this opportunity to take a quick shower and get ready a little early to go meet with the headmistress before class. After drying off I pulled on my high-waisted navy and burgundy plaid skinny jeans, white button-down shirt, navy school blazor, burgundy and white striped tie, and black Doc Martins. I also slipped my necklace on under my shirt for good measure. I'm still practicing concealing my aura, so I can't go all day without it. I checked my outfit in the full length mirror. It's not bad like a normal uniform. We have a dress code, but it's vague so we have a bit of freedom.

I walked to the headmistress' office absent-mindedly. Before I knew it I was downstairs standing in front of the office door.

I opened the door to a small room with a few blue chairs, a mahogany coffee table, and a small desk on the other side of the room with a guy sitting behind it, looking at me expectantly. Judging by the uniform he must be a student, but I've never seen him before. His skin was deep, similar to that of dark chocolate, and he stared at me sternly with his brown eyes. He had a gruff military disposition, which softened as he spoke.

"Hey, I'm Mason. What can I do for you?" He offered.

"Hi, I'm Arden. Is the headmistress in?" I asked.

"She is. Let me see if she's busy." He said as he picked up the phone.

"Hi, there's a student here asking to see you." He said into the phone.

He put the phone back on the receiver.

"You can go in." He said.

"Thanks." I said and I slowly opened the door next to his desk.

The headmistress was a tall woman with a sharp, almost birdlike nose. She was probably in her sixties or so, judging by her sallow and wrinkly skin that was accompanied by her almost white hair. She was shuffling some papers when I walked in but motioned to the burgundy leather chair in front of her somewhat messy desk for me to sit in.

"Hello. I am Headmistress Martin. I don't believe we've met. What can I do for you Miss..?" She questioned.

"Montgomery. You can call me Arden." I said as she gave a slight nod.

"Ah yes, our newest arrival. How has the school been for you so far?" She asked.

"It's been great, everyone has been really welcoming." I said and she nodded, but seemed uninterested.

"Anyway, I was wondering about one of our students... Evie Richardson?" I asked.

"What about her?" She asked through gritted teeth.

"Well, apparently no one has seen her in a while. I was wondering if you knew anything about it." I said carefully.

"Her parents came and removed her from the school." Ms. Martin said dismissively.

Removed?

"So she's okay?" I blurted out.

She pushed her horn-rimmed glasses further up the bridge of her nose and glared at me.

"Of course, why wouldn't she be?" She questioned.

"No reason. Well, that's all I came here to ask. I am glad that she is okay." I said as I started to get up to leave. She gave a small sigh of annoyance.

"Thank you, headmistress." I said as I left the room.

Mason wasn't in the reception area when I left the room.
