"You saw Evie? Where?" I asked.
"Walking through the halls." She said.
"The headmistress said her parents 'removed' her from the school." I said, using air-quotes around the word removed.
The colour drained completely from Morghan's face.
"So, if she's supposedly not here but you saw her, then-" I said but she cut me off
"She's dead." She said bitterly. "And they covered it up."
I took that in for a moment. I love a mystery or conspiracy as much as the next girl, but I don't want to jump to any conclusions. Morghan was staring off into space like she was in shock.
"Why don't we get some lunch and you can tell me if you see her again?" I asked.
She nodded.
As we exited the room I asked, "Have you ever been down the corridor that leads to a dead-end?"
"Once or twice when headed in the wrong direction, why?" She asked.
"It isn't a dead end. Not really. There are tunnels down there." I said.
"Really? That's so interesting!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah, except they're majorly creepy." I remarked.
"Even better." She smiled. "Tell me more."
We walked into the cafeteria and grabbed a couple of sandwiches, waters, and an apple each. Ugh, what I would give for some chips right now!
As we sat down at one of the tables, Morghan was searching the groups of students for Evie.
"It was super weird, my necklace fit into the lock. Also, I could swear there was something else in those tunnels with me." I said quietly.
"Creepy. So when are we going to these mysterious tunnels?" She said around a bite of sandwich.
"Does after class sound okay?" I asked, but Morghan had stopped chewing. She was staring off into the distance.
"Morghan?" I asked.
"Do you see her?" She asked me.
"See who? Evie? I don't know what she looks like." I said, trying to follow her eyes.
She gave me a wild-eyed stare before grabbing my arm.
"Please, tell me you don't see her." I gave her a confused look and followed her gaze.
Standing a few feet away from us, beside the door, was a really short girl with dark hair and skin, but her eyes were light-coloured. Her aura was glowing a dim green color.
I let out a shocked gasp when Evie and I locked eyes and I heard Morghan curse under her breath.
"We should go." Morghan said.
I nodded and checked my watch, and lunch had been over for five minutes already. I guess I'm skipping archery today too.
Morghan linked her arm with mine as we got up from the table.
I tried not to say anything, but I could see Evie following us through the halls and she was looking at me like she could see into my soul.
"She's following us." I warned.
"That was the point." Morghan said.
Morghan was practically racing back to the dorms. We passed my room and headed down the hall.
We stopped in front of a door at the end of the hallway, and Morghan unlocked it.
"Welcome to my humble abode. Shut the door, would ya?" She asked as she strode into the room.
